Oh! I forgot one other thing. The Capobiancos beef should be with the birth mother. It was she who lied from the git-go. But they can't beef with her because they were complicit in her lies -- and so was the Guardian Ad Litem and the adoption agency. Baby-selling/child-trafficking is a crime, Christy Maldonado and those who are complicit should be charged as accessories after the fact -- if we lived in a "just society" that is.
Thank you for this very well-written and empathetic article Mr. Haire. This man deserves to raise his own flesh and blood. Commenters, ZaZu, Constanza, Marma Rogers, Gail Anderson,Priscilla Stone Sharp, renee tyler, Rebecca Harper-Moler, Terri Henderson-Fields among others I've probably failed to acknowledge, are SO right on this that I need not elaborate further.
Veronica HAS a home with her BIOLOGICAL FATHER who loves her. No amount of money the Capobiancos have can erase that. The privilege and connections surrounding this case astounds me! The Capobiancos have put their need for a child before "the best interests of THIS child" and they should be ashamed (though obviously, they are not).
What blows my mind more than what's happening in this case, is the fact that Melanie Capobianco is a "lettered" professional -- dealing with other children! Anyone who's depended on her "professional advice" needs to suspect any and all of her prior, professional determinations until she, herself gets some professional help! The adoption agency should be under investigation for child trafficking, particularly if she and her "Guardian Ad Litem" have been involved -- because there's plenty about this case that "stinks in Denmark" as the saying goes.
Again, Mr. Haire -- I applaud you for your honest and correct editorial comments (don't worry about those who say they won't read your paper again -- drop in the bucket!), you are on point and humane and that'll keep you, no matter what they do!
