"But after the fall of the Soviet Union and countless other failed experiments with socialism, very few hold out any hope for socialism today. It was tried, and we learned our lesson."
Sorry Jack, but although I am no socialist by any means, this would be like claiming "After the great recession in the late 2000s and early 2010s in America, very few hold out any hope for capitalism today; it was tried, and we learned our lesson." Marx would have despised the Soviet Union because instead of a proletariat revolution which he thought and hoped would lead to a stateless and classless society, the government simply became the bourgeoisie that Marx so despised. Marx was an anarchist in many respects. To say that the fall of the Soviet Union proves that Marxism and Socialism have failed is to say the same about America and capitalism, yet it's really state socialism and state capitalism that cause all the destruction... Emphasis on the "state" aspect of course.
