I just finished teaching music, thank you on this weeknight. Tonight is singer/songwriter freebie night anyway concerning the bars. I see you aren't out either unless you are posting using wifi on your break.
"So easy to say such a thing, but the CP has 4 pages of live music listings, and that's just for Wednesday.
Another page just for Karaoke."
Shilling for karaoke's success. And a "musician" ...doubtful that you are to say something as mindless as that. That's one of the most clueless things I've read on any of these threads. Any true musician does not shill for the "success" of karaoke that takes money out of the pockets of serious musicians.
Obviously, you are not a professional as karaoke is something that allows bars to have entertainment and not pay a dime for it. I judged one of those contest farces and with a panel of three PROFESSIONALS in total agreement with the results, we were told to change them as one of the contestants who didn't make the cut "brought more than 50 people in here". And believe me this one was NOT the "runner up".
Was just like a "pay to play" rock wars kind of thing. Total BS...and again free entertainment for the bar. I'm sure it won't be long until all 5 of those supposed pages you are referring to will be listing karaoke.
I would expect those kinds of comments, especially the one concerning the musicians who lose work because of bans "suck".
This is very typical of ban shills and comments like these are to be expected. Perhaps you would like to expound on yet another deep well thought out parroted broad brush comment?
It's comical how it was assumed I hit on "coat check girls" at the end of the night when no comment was offered for the facts I presented concerning the financial demise of playing music ...as a profession... that has been concurrent with the implementation of all inclusive smoking bans in places that really were not health spas to begin with.
I take it this is an indirect passive-aggressive admission that while you agree with what I said, it would be quite an embarrassment for you to admit it.
I fully expect the comment of "it's the economy, stupid" to follow. I hope you will thank me for saving you the keystrokes at the very least to address this proactively.
Now I will comment on that. There are many factors that go into problems with "the economy" and a little broad brush remark will not cut it. All coat check girls aren't looking for a little fun "after-hours" either and neither are musicians as far as other broad brush comments are concerned.
Mr. Keith, I have to laugh especially at what you said concerning the prohibitionist attitude. FWIW, some pot smokers love the ban as they can actually hide in the mix on the patio with their "one-hits" and no one notices them "going out for a smoke" anymore.
I find that quite interesting, too, FWIW. As far as pot goes, my personal feelings is that particular prohibition should be lifted, but I do laugh at the pot shills who like to feel ...superior... to those who smoke tobacco and like to point the "addict" finger all the time at them. I have noted this strange kind of hypocritical thinking also since the plague of smoking bans invaded our society. It is almost like all that "peace and love" stuff was just window dressing for a lot of bitterness.
