The Layton, Utah skatepark started out with Skaters only on Mon, Wed & Fri. BMXers only on Tues & Thurs. Shared times were all day Saturday & Sunday. I rode the park 2-3 times a week & within 3 weeks nobody paid any heed to the segregation plan. Skater & BMXers have ever since hit the park together.
I've seen one collision between a biker and skater & it wasn't bad, not to say it couldn't be bad. We take turns in the bowl which isn't difficult once you pick up on other peoples lines and simply respect there skateing/riding space.
Every coping or ledge has tubular or rectangular steel edges with no damage to the concrete even after 8+ years of use. The only concrete damage in the park is near expansion cracks (specifically where two intersect) where water is likely getting in and freezing/expanding in the winter.
If we can learn to share and respect our city built/funded skatepark why can't any other crowd do the same?
