Sorry Chris, but it is still like that and has been for some time.
Here's two examples out of literally thousands.
"they get revenue from ads for absurd products like 50 yard eavesdropping devices, Charles Atlas exercise books and x-ray glasses that can see through brasseres."
So the last time you've read comics was in the 70's?
And you might want to let Art Spiegelman know that there's no underlying import to comics. Maybe he will throw out the Pulitzer prize he won for Maus.
"If Batman and Superman were truly heroes, they'd dedicate themselves to thwarting the crimes that go on behind closed doors — crimes like spousal abuse and child molestation — and the true dangers out on the streets — drunk drivers, texters, and reckless assholes. More importantly, they'd make sure that the hungry are fed, the homeless have shelter, and the downtrodden are given a helping hand. They have the resources and power to do these things, but they don't."
So I take it you've never read any Batman or Superman comics. Your claim is demonstrably false.
