I just read you're piece on Jack Hunter. (I will always only know him as either Jackie, the member of Skin Tight or S.A.--The Critic's shorthand for 'Southern Avenger)
Jackie and I both started at 96 Wave around the same time and both hand held by Jim Voigt (The Critic). In fact, I remember a time I told a friend I was "going to beat Jackie's ass" because he hit on my intern girlfriend at the time.
Jack and I were kinda brought along in the local media stream at the same time. We were never buddies but we were and are friendly. Over the past 5 or 6 years most of our interactions have been political.
While not AS liberal as most of my friends, to Jack Hunter, I'm probably a Pinko Communist. I have been disturbed, offended, and bewildered at a lot of his columns, commentary's, and viewpoints as an American, Southerner, Education Human, and Jew.
Anytime I have called, texted, or emailed Jack Hunter about something I felt he was off base on he has talked to me civilly and debated his view with reason. Even if I disagree with his -reason.
Some of my favorite memories of Jack Hunter are walking in to AC's for lunch and seeing him typing away at his CP article. I'd ask him what it was about and we would start debating the topic. I usually walked away thinking he was wrong.
I never walked away angry.
If nothing else, the Jack Hunter I know has always been a standup guy. (besides hitting on my then girlfriend---i give him a pass...she was hot)
The Jack Hunter I know is humble and ballsy.
He was a fucking construction worker that is now a Congressman's Aid.
I HATE Jackie's politics. But Jack Hunter is the fucking American Dream.
Foodmancing, Thanks for stereotyping all door guys and bouncers. I work as a bouncer at a high frequency bar on King Street a few times a month for some extra income and because I do other business with the bar. I am highly college educated, have a normal size neck, and while I have been called many things in my life, 'goon' is not one of them.
Further, the other bouncers I work with are like me...have big boy jobs, families, and are upstanding members of the community. All of us have high education. In interest of being honest, one of our guys necks is a bit fat...however he would never be considered a 'goon.'
Oh, and $50 a night wouldn't get me off my couch.
