I just chose to move here from Italy, and before that, California. You want to see bad government? Move to those places. At least you have a balanced budget here. This is paradise compared the predatory tax governments there.
While there is no excusing the bad behavior of a few, this episode has the hallmarks of poor police planning. 4 officers on the beach and 12 on duty? For 50,000 partiers? Why did the local police not call for mutual aid from surrounding police forces before and during the incident? And the arrest techniques almost invite abuse and endanger the officers. Four officers with their backs to the crowd down on the sand trying to cuff one person is not smart. What they need for such situations is a "flying wedge" of a dozen officers to go in and hustle out the real miscreants. The local force promised to learn from their mistakes. Lets hope they consider some improved crowd control techniques that big city forces adopted long ago.
