Yes their are some clear missteps on the extent of problems development brings, but I think the author gets at Charlestons tendency to improve the tourist economy and the people who are already in the upper/middle class. It would be a great opportunity to help everyone who lives on the peninsula by acknowledging that making new businesses doesn't help out everyone who lives in that neighborhood. We may all think that new stores and hotels are good, but if they raise property taxes and push lower income families into N Charleston then we aren't fixing any problems we are just pushing them away.
