Julian Walker: "Just saying it's a fact doesn't make it so. Is an egg a chicken? Is an acorn a tree?"
I think Beth Lott has handled these questions adeptly already, but I'll reiterate that only a FERTILIZED chicken egg is a chicken, whereas most of those sold in supermarket are UNFERTILIZED and therefore not chickens -- not that I would ever eat them, anyway. And, yes, an acorn is a small, unplanted oak tree, botanically speaking. Finally, as we know from biology textbooks, fertilization brings about a new human being's life.
Jack, I'm almost vegan, which I've been for about nineteen years. Like your friend, I escort insects outside rather than kill them. Unlike your friend, though, my compassion extends to unborn human animals, as well. And you can take heart that there are plenty of others like me.
Re: “Wrestling with the contradictions and immorality of abortion politics”
factoryconnection, you sound just like BHO. You think children are a "punishment."
When people say "Every child a wanted child!" what they really mean is "Every unwanted child a dead child!"
