The SAFA and EDF are passively supporting the derby fisheries that are wasting TONS of fish, destroying our jobs, and killing fishermen in what appears to be a malicious attempt to advance catch shares. I have repeatedly asked both "charities" to support Trip Poundage Limits that are adjusted after 75% of a quota has been caught to levels that fill quotas without long closures while we debate catch shares. This would allow fishermen to target fish with high limits while still keeping those with lower limits rather than just closing one fishery after another when a quota is met. This would provide consumers with a dependable supply of fresh local seafood and greatly reduce Regulatory Discards. The SAFA and EDF refuse to support anything but their catch share scheme that will give control of our seafood to a few corporate interests. The Proper use of Trip Poundage Limits would achieve the honorable goals of catch shares without all of the negative impacts that are well documented in other fisheries catch shares have "helped".
