I find it funny that a person would push for rent controls but not property tax controls, when property taxes are what usually are used to unjustly steal people's property for the benefit of politically connected interests.
Maybe the performers should learn to be entertaining so then the audience would have an incentive to pay attention.
I think property taxes are a great evil, as are all taxes. I'm not for any sort of government controls to keep neighborhoods this way or that way. People should have private property rights and the freedom to live wherever they choose to live, given of course that they voluntarily pay for the property.
The economy here in Charleston is unfortunately heavily influenced by federal contracts and is therefore not an economic powerhouse, because it is not self-sustaining such as that of Atlanta. If the federal government decides to stop spending so much on the military (lol) or it runs out of money, or whatever, then that federal money will stop pouring in and our economy won't look so hot.
Re: “The problem with for-profit hospitals”
If only our health system was as for-profit, unregulated, and relatively free and unencumbered as the home repair industry, healthcare would be abundant and inexpensive, just like home repairs.
