Mad River has closed their doors after 9 years of being in business. Sam Mustafa, CEO of the Charleston Hospitality Group comments "It is sad to see them close for several reasons. First of all, Mad River was part of the Market Street "family of businesses" and it's sad to see any business close. Second, this is possibly one of the worst times to suddenly lay people off.
Sam Mustafa goes on to say "We are growing and in need of good team members NOW! Especially with the scheduled opening of Tabbuli West. Employees of Mad River are encouraged to apply with the Charleston Hospitality Group. Employees don't even have to travel far from where they were going to work. Queology which is located right next door offers award winning barbecue for those looking for a casual and fun atmosphere. Then there's the famous Market Street Saloon which provides visitors with the hottest party in Charleston and the #1 destination for bachelorette and bachelor parties where patrons are encouraged to jump on the bar for some high energy choreographed entertainment."

At Charleston Hospitality Group, our employees are the most important part of our business. The 233 citations sited in this article were for collectively 233 employees and go back as far as 2010. Our servers would routinely ask to work an extra shift to supplement their income. A big hearted manager would allow this, not knowing this was a violation.
Since then, we’ve taken careful measures to identify and correct any labor or compensation issues within our organization. Also, note that the infractions mentioned within the article are not all regarding compensation or labor; some pertain to an accidental oversight with the required number of uniforms allotted per employee, which was rectified last year. None of the citations were for the back of the house. Regardless, technical precautions have been taken to ensure all overtime pay is reported accurately at each restaurant, and we are actively bringing on additional staff to alleviate employees from working more than 40 hours weekly. Also, all Charleston Hospitality Group managers are now required to attend intensive yearly training seminars on South Carolina labor and wages laws to ensure they’re enacting best practices with their teams.
