The problem is the legislators. They will undoubtedly create some sort of restriction on gun laws that will be abstract non-sense that will be open to interpretation. They will leave the laws open ended and use the laws against a person who actually uses them in self defense.
"All liberals hate all guns" is a straw man, they don't hate the gun, they hate the fact that they have little control over the gun owner.
I completely agree with your statements Jack. Blowback is the best explanation for the cause of Sept. 11th. But it is not politically correct to mention it. I do believe modern terrorism has its roots in the Afghan wars. While we supported the mujahadeen at that time after the war was over we basically left a power vacuum in the country and abandoned Afghanistan after that. A power vacuum created the conditions for the creation of the terrorist camps, and also created a hatred for a country that had supported them and later abandoned them after they no longer served our interests. It's similar to what happened after we invaded Kuwait, pushed back Saddam and then later encouraged the people to rise up against him, who were later brutalized by Saddam. Detractors from your statements are basically ignoring the our past history in the region and our lack of commitment in the region as well. And saying anything but they "hate our freedom" goes against the modern neo-con reasoning for there hatred for us.
