Re: “Charleston Film Festival gets a new organizer and new outlook

No, I don't have them mixed up. It was the festival at the Terrace. Though I should recheck what amount we paid for the passes. It just seemed like a lot. And I was trying to remember in retrospect what we paid in comparison to this year.

Of course, whatever it was doubles for TWO passes since both my husband & I got passes for the whole shootin' match.

And to the snide remark about out of towners -- that's just the kind of snobbery to which I refer in my original comments, btw -- I've lived in the lowcountry for 44 years, as of this April.

And, yes, I know there are two festivals that are similarly named -- always good to keep up the confusion when you're fighting for the same piece of pie, I guess.

BTW, I also know that the Charleston Film Makers Club, to which I belonged in '88-'90, brought the first film festival to this area period, and that many have come through since then, so claims of first rights at this point give me a bit of a laugh.

Also, though we live in Mt. P., my husband & I attend movies at the Terrace whenever we can and with enough heads-up time to get to what we'd like to see.

In the not too distant past, we saw Conviction with Sam Rockwell, and we saw the 3rd of the Lisbeth Salander trilogy there -- in fact we saw all 3 of the Millennium Trilogy movies at the Terrace.

Mostly, however, we go to the Theater over here in Mt. P. which was recently voted the Best in Charleston for the 2nd year, I believe -- and with good reason!

In any case, the object of my comment was to see if I could encourage anyone involved to make this festival -- or the other one, for that matter -- something that more regular people could enjoy, instead of an elitist bash that's out of reach for most and even if someone scrimps to get the tickets, they may not be treated as well as others who might be more well-to-do and therefore people with potentially deep pockets.

Finally, I have a very hard time being entertained by people who think they are better than others -- including me -- which, believe me, they are not.

Re: “Charleston Film Festival gets a new organizer and new outlook

As one of the Jane Q. Publics out here, I just want to say that as nice as the Terrace theater and its people seem to be, I have come to a feeling of irritation and ennui with film and movies which I have always loved... and recognize that movies and movie festivals appear to be nothing more than bits of fluff that aren't doing much of anything we've been schooled and groomed to believe that the arts do.

The festivals, which feature over-priced tickets for the range of the common person, seem to be an excuse for the pretentious to party & the wannabees to get close to anyone or anything that smells like fame.

Personally, I'd rather rent these films at a much lower rate and give the difference to charity, rather than pay for the opportunity to be sniffed at and looked down on by people who have no sense of proportion nor any sense of who they are in this life.

I feel that I can say this because my husband & I spent the approximately $220. or $240. for the festival passes last year, only to be treated in an obnoxious fashion at certain points by some of the snobbier types of people who attend these things and even one of the supposed "artistes" who was showing his cartoon shorts.

And, really, a lot of films and movies aren't what they used to be any more, either, but shiny empty things created by self-indulgent, self-congratulatory individuals who are so far removed from so many real people in the real world, they have precious true ability to entertain let alone uplift.

Sorry, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes, and that's just the truth about the way it is.
