Their new menu is AWESOME!! Most people I know love this restaurant, and obviously people have to enjoy it for them to stay open. They have awesome happy hour drink specials and now they are doing a special for families or groups that come in on Thursdays! I'm trying it out tonight with some friends that are in town! They are also doing wine paired 5 course dinners every third Wednesday of each month. I can't wait to try that as well!
I am truly sorry for those of you that have had not so perfect experiences at Neil Jordan's. They must be doing something right though! They are surviving the economy, and they have people that are dedicated to supporting the owners and their wait staff. If you want something more affordable, visit their restaurant during lunch time or when they have brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. I go there about once a week and I have an awesome experience every time!
About the corking fee...it's only $15 at Neil Jordan's if you have a bottle of wine from Wine Styles and they have some great wines there! Neil's has some really awesome wines too though. I suggest you try one of them if you ever decide to take another chance.
Oh and you do realize the restaurant is next to Park West...which houses Dunes West oh and there is also Planters Point and Rivertown only a few minutes away. A lot of those people (who can supposedly afford those houses) go to that walmart which means they know about Neil's. It's a perfect spot for them, and there are new churches being built out there. I know for a fact that some of those people go there for brunch after their church service gets out. That restaurant was started so that we could have some fine dining out in North Mt. P.
About Grill 225...I've been there a few times and I enjoyed myself and the food was pretty good. I just feel like Neil Jordan's is more personable. Neil tries to talk to everyone in the restaurant and make them feel welcome and at home. I've never gotten that treatment from anyone but the servers at 225. I can also get out of there without it costing me an arm and a leg. (obviously I splurge a little bit when I want that yummy steak with asparagus and one of Alan's super yummy martini's!) Their chopped salad is great too! (but that's the only salad I ever get) I mean is someone seriously going to go to a good quality restaurant for a salad...you could have that at home. Grill 225 is way more expensive than NJ's any way.
And you know what!? I like being able to dress casually IN MY FLIPFLOPS and go out for a nice dinner. I take all of my friends to Neil's when they come into town. It is a great laid back atmosphere. Everyone I've taken there (even when the service was slow) has loved it. If you're in a hurry, go to a fastfood restaurant. If you want good quality, there is normally more prep time and a higher price to go with it.
Just out of curiousity how many of you critics have ever actually worked (waited tables) at a restaurant?
Oh and for those of you that did not have a good experience, next time tell the managers so they can make other people's experience better and yours as well if you ever go back.
