I don't understand the marketing push that "good" food is food that is locally grown. Fresh local broccoli still smells like farts and tastes like ass. Why do I want to eat trash fish and small, fragile strawberries? No, I think I'd rather have the choice chops that actually taste good from whatever geographic area has a comparative advantage in producing those products rather than the parts of locally raised animals that require lots of dressing up in the kitchen to make palatable. You can keep your tripe.
Ever notice that the food at Husk never quite tastes as good as you expected?
Really Chris, you're going to try to shame parents who take an active role in the development of their children? How many parents from America Street were at that meeting? Now I agree that we should support head-start and after-school programs, but nobody was talking about taking money from these programs. Nobody advocated turning a blind eye toward the special children of the King Park area. They were talking about taking money from a soccer field and putting into a swimming pool. That seems very reasonable, but perhaps you see this swimming pool as some sort of an economic centerpiece that is vital to the community.
Maybe, instead of bleating at the rest of the us, you should devote your energy to knocking on doors along America Street and espousing the virtues of team sports. We are all better off when children learn the value of teamwork, discipline, and hard work through sport. The Charleston Parks and Rec Dept is absolutely fabulous and offers all manner of sporting activities, most of which cost about $30 per season. It's an incredible value for your babysitting dollar, but it requires parental involvement. Parental involvement is always the key to nurturing unique little snowflakes of all colors and dimensions.
Not boom, BOOM.
The economy is recovered. It's been 4 years since the end of the recession.
Saying conservatives are not optimistic is like saying Ebeneezer Scrooge was not generous. An understatement to say the least. Conservatives are angry, pessimistic, fearful people and they always want everyone around them to be fearful, as well. The sky is always falling. We're always about to be attacked. Any changes in the world are threatening and will end with the destruction of our way of life. Come on artrogue, let go of the gloomy worldview and enjoy the sunny side of life.
First of all, the economy is recovered and the spending growth is still contained. Secondly, where are the examples of other recessions in the last 50 years providing similar impacts. And finally, these cost reductions are also seen in medicare and medicaid where there would be no incentive for individuals to cut back on services.
Since the passage of the ACA in 2010:
Healthcare spending growth is the lowest on record
Healthcare price inflation is lowest in 50 years
CBO reduced projections for Medicare and Medicaid spending by $147 billion (10% reduction)
This is the "bending of the cost curve" that Obama promised. But, Obamacare is a failure because the website didn't work right away. Sheesh.
