Re: “RESTAURANT REVIEW: Uno Mas

I have been going to Uno Mas once a week for the last year or so. My husband has been working on a job in Mt. Pleasant, so we will typically meet him over there for dinner. This is not your typical "Mexican food" restaurant....no La Ha or Sr Tequila crap here! This is REAL food....the guacamole is the best..so good that I have been known to eat an entire bowl and not be able to order an entree. My husband loves the fried chicken tacos and the pork served on banana leaves (can't remember the name of the dish). I love the baja fish tacos, and we get our son something "not hot" from the kids menu. If you get there during happy hour, margaritas and appetizers are super cheap! The service is always good, but the best thing ever is the window into the kitchen. It's free entertainment for our son, which gives me and my husband a few minutes to talk about our day. The chef, Anthony Gainey, is wonderful. We're in there often enough that he knows not to make anything too hot for me or my son, and he always comes out to the table to greet us. He even "performes" for my son behind the kitchen window. Anthony's perky personality and great food totally make that restaurant. Without him there, I don't think we would go.
**one side comment, one evening, we were in there during the dinner rush, and the owner came in, went into the kitchen, told everyone (we could hear him) to stop what they were doing and make him two entrees to "taste test". WTH?? Is he an idiot? It's dinner rush, and you're going to tell the kitchen staff to stop cooking for your patrons? The owner is obviously a dumb ass.
