Jack Hunter, your use of the words "liberal" and "conservative" represent identify politics driven by emotion not logic.
If you do an Internet search of the word "liberal", you will discover that the liberal ideal is a belief in the importance of liberty.
A search of "conservative" will reveal that the conservative ideal is to preserve something as opposed to the progressive ideal of changing something. Both "conservative" and "progressive" are meaningless without specifying what is to be preserved or changed.
If you used the words correctly, you would describe Constitutional conservative Ron Paul as more liberal than Obama or Palin on most issues.

Mark Sanford has been co-opted as a tool for the GOP establishment. He supported John McCain over Ron Paul during the Presidential primaries.
