It is naive to think that athletes should be held to a higher standard just because they have a well honed physical ability. Lawrence Taylor was doing coke off strippers bodies the night before he set sack records. How many pro base ball players just got busted for using steroids? Illegal drugs AND cheating in their sport but yet they are considered "national icons who youngsters look up to". If a young person is influenced or encouraged by the action of a sports star, you can look to poor parenting. In other parts of the civilized world drugs are legal because societies have realized prohibition doesn't work and then everyone is held to the same standard. Shocker-the amount of impressionable children using drugs in countries where they are legal is FAR FAR less than in the U.S.
Re: “Second Sundays on King Street”
Want to help eliminate traffic and vehicular issues down town? Make King pedestrian only in this area. Foot traffic will increase dramatically offsetting any lost parking issues for the tenants in the area. Go to any city in Europe and notice the pedestrian only areas are packed...but then again europeans aren't circling a parking lot waiting for a space to open up so they don't have to walk.
