I couldn't agree with johnscott and elam1234. O-ku is the biggest disappointment for me this year considering all the hype. The one good thing we had was not on the menu - it was oysters with delicious mazutaki (sp?) mushrooms. All else was just OK, and OK is definitely not the kind of prices or atmosphere this place was trying to project. If you want better sushi, head over to Zen in West Ashley. I have been there twice now after the disappointing meal. Our server was not knowledable on any of the sakes or dinner choices, which is not really acceptable for the prices and atmosphere. Train the waitstaff before they hit the floor. By not doing so, you shoot yourself in the foot.
If you are planning on going out and drinking, plan to pay for a cab if you don have a DD. Can't afford a taxi, but you can afford to go out drinking? $50 or whatever you are paying is a lot less expensive than a DUI, and certainly less expensive than the cost of a life. When I go out, I have taxi numbers saved in my phone, know which ones do and do not accept credit cards, etc.
As far as the F&B industry having a drinking problem. Well, sure. I've been there, done that. Worked in the industry for almost a decade. However, I now work in IT, and there's a ton of drinkers/drinking/etc. The scapegoating of the F&B industry on that accusation is not credible till a study with factual data occurs.
DOH! I meant to say, "I couldn't agree more with elam1234 and johnscott." Sorry for the mistype.
Surprise, surprise. This guy is the biggest jackarse. Ugh. Go away, Joe Wilson. But most likely, he'll be Palin's running mate. They're a match made in political hell.
Yeah, 11dogboy11! Thanks for going without me! :) J/K Can't wait to try!
Amen, Little Nell. I couldn't have said it better. I'd like to see more breakfast spots, too.
