Well Ms. Curry may know how to use three syllable words like 'clusterfuck' and she might know how to bake cookies but she doesn't know a damn thing about city planning or urban design. Other than that, it was totally inaccurate. Great job. Sorry you had to miss so many classes in journalism school.
You can call it Avondale all day long and I'm fine with that (really) but 827 is on the Byrnes Downs side of the highway. So. Welcome to the neighborhood! We are pleased and proud to have you! Awesome concept! Awesome space!
As a landscape architect and urban designer, I am a huge proponent of "Complete Streets" -- streets designed to accommodate transit, bicyclists and pedestrians as well as automobiles -- made even better by incorporating green infrastructure and beauty. After all, this is our public realm.
I am not, however, a huge proponent of idiots or bad journalism. This would be inclusive of people like Tara "Cut and Paste" Servatius.
this was my first visit to Pure but it won't be my last. This was a great play, perfectly cast, effective stage design and great acting. Loved it.
I fully support Laura Dukes Beck in this run-off for a variety of reasons.
I am a landscape architect / urban designer residing in Byrnes Downs and I represent my neighborhood on the Ashley Bridge District Board. So, I have a pretty good grasp of the issues affecting the area.
I support Smart Growth and a real bicycle / pedestrian connection over the Ashley River Bridge. My studio completed the Master Plan for the West Ashley Greenway and a safer, more comfortable connection to downtown is key to transforming the greenway from a recreational asset to a real transportation alternative.
In many cities (Portland, OR and Davis, CA are prime examples) bicycles ARE a real transportation option. But without the infrastructure to accommodate them, that shift will never happen. It can happen in Charleston. The desire is there. The infrastructure is not -- yet. Laura supports that shift.
It is POSSIBLE to get across the bridge on a bicycle now but it doesn't "Feel Good" and we should feel safe and secure when we are in the Public Realm.
I also support more sustainable practices such as urban agriculture and cleaner water. I know Laura supports those issues too.
Mr. Moody might be throwing more money into this campaign but I don't think he can throw more heart into it.
We need a progressive voice for District 11 in the City of Charleston and I think that voice is Laura Dukes Beck.
Vote for her!
