So Charleston's been slammed with the speakeasy for the next round? I'm assuming ;)
Who else made the cut? I remember Charleston was all abuzz about this leading up to Charleston Fashion Week!
Unfortunately, the cost of retail space in downtown Charleston squashes the fashion-forward entrepreneurial spirit, hence the abundance of big box and luxury retailers.
Many local retailers cannot take the risk of carrying clothing lines from local and regional designers as they have established clientele to please. Where is the incentive?
Witnessed by "Out of Business" signs and boarded up windows, the King Street design and retail district has become the perfect example of where Charleston’s local and independent entreuprenurial spirit goes to die!
I would love to see the Charleston Fashion Week council consider fostering retail supportive opportunities with the City of Charleston. As a simple gesture, even a post-CFW month long pop-up shop to showcase local and regional talent would be a huge push in the right direction.
Not everyone can afford tickets under the tents of Marion Square, but would embrace the chance to connect with and support local designers. Charleston Fashion Week has the potential to be so much more than a week long wham-bam event!
I look forward to Charleston Fashion Week 2010!!!
Hmmm...Did this person even go to the event?
Something to be proud of?
