All I can say about this dinner was WOW! An antipasto plate consisting of golden beets, olives, feta cheese, pickled eggs, red peppers and salami was paired with Boy King Double IPA (and said Boy King was in attendance), a nice surprise that Jaime brought along to the event celebrating COAST's four years in existence. The food was amazing (butternut squash soup, wood-fired local shrimp & suckling pig porchetta) and the beers complimented everything nicely (Belafonte, Chinook and the equally amazing 2009 Blackbeerd stout - my personal favorite). To finish off the evening, a chestnut & asian pear panna cotta was paired with the blended Red Legs (60% Red Legs & 40% 2 year old Jack Daniel barrel aged Red Legs). Jamie & David make some great beers and the chef at EVO (my apologies to him for not knowing his name) made some impressive food. Thanks to everyone for a great evening!
Hugh, you are incorrect. Thanks to the efforts of Jaime from COAST (and founder/president of SC Brewer's Association), a bill was signed in May of 2007 that allowed beer up to 17.5% ABV to be sold. BEFORE that you couldn't buy anything higher than 5%.
And why do you always have to turn EVERY discussion into a rant about "traditional marriage"??? This article had nothing, NOTHING, to do with what you're ranting about. Please, try to stay on subject.
A "beer festival" loses some of it's credibility with me as well when they're serving Pacifico and Coors Light. But overall, they had a good selection. COAST and Westbrook were also being served. The VIP section had some stellar selections available all day long as well as hourly "specials", one of which was a Mint Chocolate Stout that was a collaboration between Ken Schmidt (who won Stone's 2012 Homebrew Competition), Iron Fist and Stone.
You're assuming everyone who reads The City Paper lives in Charleston County. What about Berkeley & Dorchester?
Wow. Sorry I missed this one. It sounds GREAT!
