Re: “The pro-life fanatics who drive smoking bans

Your the one who doesn't get it Word. The public is invited not forced to enter. I love this "get used to it" and "deal with it" crap that I always hear from you people. I have gotten used to it. I don't drink very often but my state has exempted private clubs so when I do drink thats where I go. There are no plans to get rid of that (in fact recent attempts in a few towns have failed) but if they do then I'll stay home. It isn't about getting used to it. I don't agree with it Word and I have that right just as you have the right to be arrogant and insist that there be no places left for smokers to go. In the end you may win but as of right now it still depends on where you live my friend. As it is now I have no trouble finding places to vacation where smoking is still allowed and attempts to ban smoking have failed in more places then they've succeeded. As far as restaurants responsibility to protect the public, that argument only goes so far. I agree with the points made by others on that issue so I'll leave that issue alone. You don't have to go to a bar that allows smoking, its just that simple. If I invite guests to my house do you think it is my responsibility not to smoke? Of course it isn't. They don't have to come if they don't like it. Now I said that I don't think smoking should be allowed everywhere I just think private business owners should be allowed to decide for themselves if they want to allow me to smoke or not. If current trends continue fewer and fewer places will choose to accomodate smoking and I'm fine with that but that just isn't good enough for you people. Thats what makes you extremists. You hype up the risks of SHS and you except no compromise. Now in the words of your friend from earlier in the debate "I have no more time for you." Or something like that.

Re: “The pro-life fanatics who drive smoking bans

Isn't it a shame that in a country founded on individual liberty and the sanctity of private property there are millions of stupid selfrighteous people who feel it is their right to tell the owner of a small bar that he must cater only to them? The selfrighteous attitude of the anti smokers who always comment in discussions is amazing. It occurs to me that most of my friends don't smoke and yet I don't know a single non smoker who ever made that big of a deal out of being in a bar where smoking was allowed. If there was good ventilation that was always good enough. Of course most of them also don't care enough about this issue to comment so I think its mostly the extremists who we hear commenting on these boards and of course smokers because because we are tired of the treatment we're subjected too. Let me make this clear again. I don't want to blow smoke in anyones face and I don't think I should be able to smoke everywhere. The fact that smoking was allowed everywhere for years was not my doing. That being said the answer to the smoking problem is not to go from the old extreme of smoke everywhere to a new extreme where smokers can't go anywhere. There always should have been places for both but anti smokers aren't interested in that because they hate smoke and smokers and they want to punish us. That is evident from the hate filled rhetoric on this board alone.

I had said I wouldn't comment anymore but this is just too much fun. "Word" you are another antismoking zealot who has missed the point. No one forces you to allow smoking in your home or in your car. It is the bar owners choice whether to allow smoking and if he does than you have the right not to go to that bar. Its ver simple but no no you just have to have your own damn way! And by the way I smoke in both my car and my home.

Re: “The pro-life fanatics who drive smoking bans

i personally know of a co-worker who never smoked, live in a non-smoking state (california) but died of lung cancer because her parents smoked around her. instead of trying to rattle everyone's cage with this kind of convoluted thinking, try, try to really focus on the facts above. would you smoke inside in a nursery, in the hospital (in a plane...haha)...think for yourself; don't let the tobacco people think for you. there are all kinds of things banned on business’s private property (some of them legal elsewhere) and this is now one of them because it's bad! Guess what, sometimes nonsmokers get cancer and it has nothing to do with smoke. Because this persons parents smoked around them may have nothing to do with it. All I can say to you now is WHATEVER! Oh and think for yourself don't allow the puritanical, prohibitionist anti smoking fanatics think for you. Obviously there is no compromise to be had with people like you.
