I went to Joe Pasta for the first time in October 2007 and it was INCREDIBLE! Delicate pasta (I had the lasagna), amazing wine, impeccable, prompt, courteous service. I told all my friends, and even touristy strangers on the street wondering which restaurant to choose, that they MUST go to this restaurant - it is WONDERFUL!!
A return trip with friends in December was an EMBARASSMENT! BURNED pasta (I ordered the exact same menu item as the first time because I had loved it SO much), so-so wine, sloppy, indifferent service......WHAT HAPPENED???? I could not even eat my entree because the bottom of the lasagna was so badly burned. It practically took an Act of Congress to get the waiter to take it away, let alone credit our bill for the inedible food (which they DID do before we left). Two months and the place had spiralled out of control.......WHAT HAPPENED???
As one critic (not you) put it, "What are you doing this weekend? Well, change your plans and SEE THIS SHOW BEFORE IT IS GONE!"....HURRY!!
I'm not sure which performance you caught, but none of the glitches and dullness you refer to were in the performance I attended! People NEED to see this production!! It is WONDERFUL!!
I have never seen "Rent", so I did not go because I am a Jonathan Larson fan. I went because I was intrigued by the synopsis in your paper.
I was REALLY amazed by the talent I saw on that stage! The acting was superb and focused - touching just when it needed to be. Vocals were fresh and vibrant. The superb characterizations by the "crowd" around Jon really brought the city to life. Perhaps you should give it another chance? Everyone doesn't see things the same way. That's why we have critics to guide us. It's usually very helpful when deciding if you should see something you are not familiar with. In this case, however, you missed the mark. I'm glad I went BEFORE I read your review...I would have missed something VERY SPECIAL!
