Re: “Will white voters abandon Obama in November?

And one thing regarding Clinton's role: Phil Gramm wrote and led the charge to repeal Glass-Stiegel. Clinton signed it though he shouldn't have. That said, there was a veto-proof majority in both houses, so it would have been symbolic, at best.

Re: “Will white voters abandon Obama in November?

Facts always seem to get in the way of people who don't like what they see in the mirror:

1) W was handed a $155 billion surplus that he turned into a roughly 1/2 billion dollar deficit this year.

2) W more than doubled the national debt from about $4 trillion to over $9 trillion.

3) W has done nothing to keep Social Security or Medicare/Medicaid from going bankrupt.

4) The prescription drug program W passed for the elderly has ended up costing many of them more money, not less.

5) Under his watch, the cost of gasoline went from a nation average of $1.45 a gallon when he took office to over $4.10 a gallon in 2008, 282% increase in about 7-1/2 years.

6) Under his watch inflation has gone from under 2% to over 10% based on CPI, annualized, even after how his administration changed how CPI was calculated.

7) Even after changing how unemployment numbers are calculated, in January 2001 national unemployment was 4.2%, statistically below the Economic 101 figure of "5.0%" unemployed, or terminally unemployed to a September 2008 rate of 6.1% and rising. Under W's watch, America saw its worst job loss in a four year term (during your first term) of 2.1 million jobs lost. So far for 2008, over 650,000 jobs lost.

8) Inflation has grown at the highest level in 17 to 20 years, with CPI rising to a rate of over 10% on an annualized basis. Social Security COLA is projected to be over 6% this year, when there isn't even enough money to cover the increase.

9) Mean annual income has declined on his watch, although it has started to go up, I'll give him a shred of credit, but still no where near even 2000 level despite spiraling inflations.

10) Despite draconian changes in bankruptcy laws, practically written by the banking industry, we're seeing a record number of personal bankruptcy in 2008.

11) Foreclosure rates are at the highest they've been in history, as the percentage of US homeowners plunges in the nation.

12) While President, the worst terrorist attack in US history happened on his watch. In reaction, with the world unified with him, W launched an attack on false evidence his administration manufactured into Iraqi, while not forming an effective effort to find Osama bin Laden. The American people were told it would take weeks to sweep Iraq, they would throw roses at our feet, and we would be home in time for Christmas while the cheap oil flowed into our country and the Iraqi people paid us back for their liberation through oil profits.

Six years later? Over 4,200 dead, over 35,000 wounded, many of them gravely wounded. A new generation of soliders who will need hundreds of billions of dollars in treatment for psychological issues. No weapons of mass destruction. Quite possibly a trillion dollars spent. The pro-US governments of Spain and Pakistan collapsed. Tony Blair leaving as the PM of the UK under heavy fire from his own people. Major terror attacks in Spain, England, Indonesia, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, including attacks in September of 2008 on US interests in Pakistan and Yemen resulting in over 50 deaths and hundreds wounded. In Afghanistan the Taliban is taking back over, and even the Pentagon calling the strategy a failure. Given recent attacks in Pakistan and Yemen, we are no safer as a nation, nor or are our interests than we were in September of 2001. What is most disturbing, is the pattern of small attacks by AQ globally preceeding a major attack on US interests is starting again, just at a time when you're trying to convince us that AQ is on the ropes. Yes, the Surge has worked and worked extremely well, history will give him some credit, but we should never have been there in the first place.

Oh and that oil? Well China cut an exclusive deal with Iraq for their oil and the Iraqi government has paid us one red cent back for our, ehem, help in Iraq, while sitting on over $80 billion in oil profits.

13) The US dollar has reached historic lows against global currencies lowering US buying power both here and abroad. Shoot, even the Canadian loonie is worth more than the greenback, and parity hasn't been the case since 1976.

14) Now, the United States is in the worst banking crisis since the Great Depression. W's plan, another $700 billion of money the country doesn't have tossed at the problem, after over $600 billion tossed at the problem through various government take overs. Somehow socialized medicine is bad, but W has managed to take over the mortgages of almost half of America, almost $6 trillion in debt on the books, and now with the AIG bailout, W controls the insurance policies too.

I'm sorry to report, and to Herbert Hoover's relief, that George Bush will go down, without a doubt, as the worst President in US history.

But thanks for playing. If it weren't for Republican dupes, boards like this one wouldn't be nearly as much fun. Unfortunately your kind of short sightedness and partisan blindness is destroying the country, but why would you worry about that?

Re: “Will white voters abandon Obama in November?

Nice strawman wicklow. Trying to put this on Clinton somehow releaves Bush of any responsibility? No one else sees this because as adults, most of us grew up to learn that we need to take responsibility for our actions.

I bet you were the kind of brat when you were a kid that used to blame your siblings when you did things to get you in trouble. Apparently, you didn't outgrow that and learn how to take responsibility.

The fact is, now read this real slow so that you understand this: the buck stops with the current white house occupant. I can't stand a liar, and you sir, are one. Good day.

Re: “Will white voters abandon Obama in November?

Mr. Wicklow would have people believe that Obama represents a socialist form of Government? Hold up the mirror why don't you. It is the Bush Administration who are dangerously close to pushing a form of socialist agenda in their practices of privitizing profits while socializing the losses of Bear Stearn, AIG, Freddie and Fannie to the tune of a trillion dollars.

This is a crisis that has taken place while there is a Republican president, and the buck stops with the Republican Party here. We, the people, are now expected to foot the bill for the bailout of the banks and investment firms who gambled irresponsibly and took what they could get while Bush was at the helm.

I hope the rest of the good people of the United States aren't fooled by the peddlers of lies and distortions by people like Wicklow in the hopes that the "stupid people" will vote against their own best interests.
