I am now re-reviewing Heart after returning since I heard they made some front of the house changes. I was pleasantly surprised to find AWESOME service this time around. I have never had bad food at Heart (always delicious but just painful service coming from a former food and bever), so I had to stop going after repeated bad service. It seems this issue has been resolved and we had a very nice server for Saturday brunch, I believe Duncan was his name. Congrats to Heart and thanks for giving me a place to eat on JI thats reasonably priced and has good, quality food!

I will stay on topic and discuss the food only. The place was quite empty when we came on the 2nd day around 6. The basic margaritas were pretty good. We sample just about everything. The tacos were small but tasty and very flavorful--fresh, homemade tortillas and yummy sauces. My favorite was the octopus salad app. Then we got the porchetta torts with fried egg--delish! Also tried the carolina gold rice with cheese and pesto. Friendly staff and cool interior. Quite out of place but oh well.
I can't even get a cab in this town if I try and call back several times. Go ahead and strike, you've already burned most people in town and they're not going to use you (and good luck trying to get the law changed).
Sad to see Lucky's close. We just lost another one of James Island's few good restaurants. :(
I have been to Heart now at least 8-10 times and have been there enough to realize 2 things--the food is really good and the service SUCKS! The best service we had was soon after they opened and we were the only table for late lunch. Then, the service got worse and worse. From having a full patio set-up but no one to work out there, to having a server that seems to avoid the table rather than wait on it, there are multiple front of the house fails there. I once joined the table after my friends had drinks and this completely confused the server.
My last meal there will probably be my last though after the most painful brunch ever. Our server must have had a rough night because he was in slowmo! It took 5 minutes for him to set out bev naps for water, 30 minutes to get our drinks, 30 minutes for food and then he never came back. We had to finish up with the manager who was aware of an issue without us saying anything.
I hope this place stays open so we have good food on James Island, but unless they clean house and realize their staff is making the restaurant a sinking ship, say goodbye to Heart.
I went for lunch and really enjoyed it, but I do agree the price at lunch for a small plate of pasta was expensive ($14). Sermet's was known for their mid-range prices, so it is a shame that we have lost another option like this. I actually liked the new decor.
