Re: “Grindz Burgers & Brew

I stopped eating there some time ago as there are better options in the area for similar dollars. It has the chance to be a good place with a few tweaks. 1) shrink the menu, specialize in something and make it exceptional instead of offering a huge walmart-esk menu where nothing is very good 2) Focus on being a Brew house (since it is in your name) and offer a better selection of quality beers (finding a way to separate yourself from the competition). 3) Train your wait staff to be better.

Seems simple enough, but they obviously don't get it.

Re: “If Charleston doesn't get real about social diversity it's going to feel a world of pain

I'm happy to read someone who is addressing the mutual self-segregation reality behind Charleston's over arching racial disparity and not just putting blame squarely on white people being racists. I firmly believe that most segregation (all race aside) sits upon socio-economic lines; I want to be around people with mutual goals and interests and who are positive influences. If you don't meet this standard, I don't really want to be around you in a social setting and won't allow you into my circle. Now take that and plug in different descriptors and you have universal self-segregation. Frankly, I'm ok with it.

Re: “Removing the Confederate flag isn't enough

@artrogue... "Totalitarians are a different breed. These are the people who have a plan, who think they see the future more clearly than you or who are convinced they grasp reality in a way that you do not. They don’t serve themselves—or, they don’t serve themselves exclusively—they serve History, or The People, or The Idea, or some other ideological totem that justifies their actions."

WOW, I sure would love to know more about this philosophy. I am one that thinks he does sees thing more clearly than others. I do not agree with the below of your above statements, but certainly have a firm foothold in the aformention definition of a Totalitarin. Thank you for putting a definition on my general thought process.

I, though, would love to understand how those who think that robbing a dollar general will net them any actual benefit and how they see the world as clearly as I do? Does this speak to you in racial terms? I could elaborate this thought further, but I assume that you comprehend the point I am making.

Re: “What's with the Cracker Barrel's enduring appeal?

To share a bit of insight, that Cracker Barrel was not put there to please the locals. It is there b/c of the droves of tourist that frequent our fair city. The pedistrian food that CB serves does not stand up to what we know our city has to offer, but to the tourons from Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York it is a place of familiarity and they would rather settle with crummy food that they know, vs. investing any time or effort into finding a meal that they would actually love.

Great write up though!
