Re: “It's time South Carolina rediscovers John Edwards

To mp33- it was actually the united states general accounting office that made the statement about the impact of lawsuits on health care costs. there are obviously many other factors contributing to health care costs- i.e. the swindlers in the insurance industry, for example. i don't believe you are familiar with john edwards' questionable methods(misuse of medical data/literature) of winning lawsuits against ob/gyns in charlotte. medicine is not an exact science contrary to popular belief. bad outcomes occur despite the best efforts of physicians. 'imagine if you will', an honest, hard working, well trained ob/gyn doing his or her very best to make sure a healthy baby is delivered into this world and a bad outcome outside the control of the physician occurs. then john edwards gets wind of the outcome, presents sketchy data to the jury and preys on their sympathy for the patient and disdain for the 'wealthy'physician (who finished med school $100K in debt and is part of the ONLY profession to see decreasing income in the last 10 years despite working longer hours and seeing more patients).heck, when medical lawsuits go to trial, physician defendants win the majority of cases. unfortunately, physicians/hospitals/insurance companies cut their losses by settling out of court and making folks like john edwards wealthy. i am not jealous of john edwards. wealth doesn't bring happiness. it is the contradictions between john edward's words and actions and the gullability (sp?) of the american public that shocks me. medical mistakes occur. i am not arguing this point. do you know how many lives are SAVED each minute by physicians in hospitals in this country?? i didn't think you did! we need to cut down on mistakes and ,hopefully, this will occur with more rigid guidelines in the hospital. The number of lives saved, however, by physicians FAR,FAR EXCEEDS the harm done. i hope you don't believe verything michael moorer says!!!! i suggest you be cautious of extremists who point out only problems and no solutions. fyi-you want free health care? tax the heck out of the tobacco growers or make tobacco illegal. the money saved by reducing tobacco related diseases could provide free healthcare for life for every person in this country many times over. p.s. a lot of other folks must also know the truth about john edwards considering he has been forced to w/draw.

Re: “It's time South Carolina rediscovers John Edwards

john edwards??!!! does anyone realize he made a substantial amount of money as an attorney suing obstetricians/gynecologists in charlotte. in the medical profession, he is referred to as an 'ambulance chaser'. i am sure you know what i am talking about. we have all seen the bill green and akim 'strong arm of the law' anastopolou commercials. yep, this is john edwards. according to the u.s. general accounting office, these lawsuits have helped drive UP the cost of health care including for 'the common man'. how can he now push for affordable health care when he contibuted to it being less affordable!! john 'i live in a 20,000+ square foot home and get $400.00 haircuts' edwards. does anyone truly believe he is for the common man!!! wake up, sc!!!

Re: “The cynicism of the Democrats

to charleston cracker- was the irony in your last comment intentional?? if so, that's a good one! initially stating '79%' of statistics are made up then providing a list of your own mostly absurd and irrelevant statistics.

Re: “RESTAURANT REVIEW: Uno Mas

anyone who has lived in california and/or texas will tell you uno mas fails misrably in the category of mexican food. charlestonians ,in general, have no concept of what constitutes good etnic food. charleston is 90% 'homogenized' southern cuisine. this is good food done well in this city but how about some variety. the lack of much ethnic diversity in charleston impairs its ability to provide good ethnic cuisine.

Re: “Folly Beach Residents Report Police Harassment

to frank castle- i think the "someone from summerville" comment was going a little overboard. the town you grew up in does not hold exclusive rights to intelligence. take a deep breath next time and think before you make a ridiculous comment like this.
