    Drinking School is in Session
School may be out for the summer, but that doesn't mean you should put your book-learnin' on hold until September. That said, feel free to trade the textbooks for a stack of instructional manuals devoted to one of our favorite summer pastimes: drinking. Here are a few of our favorite recent releases.

Where to Go, What to Eat, and What to Do
Charleston is home to three great beaches, and each one has its own vibe. And sadly, now that the Folly Beach booze ban is in effect thanks to a couple of knuckleheaded bros, you can’t legally drink an ice-cold adult bev on any of them.

    Nurturing Growth
The family farm might be facing extinction, but in a sunlit, 10-acre hideaway off of Betsy Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island, Lowcountry Local First is developing its own dirt dynasty. Novice farmers work under the guidance of Sidi Limehouse and Rita Bachmann on land donated by Limehouse's Walnut Hill Plantation with support from a host of local sponsors. Dirt Works is Phase Two of LLF's Growing New Farmers Incubator Project and on-the-ground training for farmers with big hearts and small pockets.

    Hydration Station
There are some days that are so blisteringly hot, not even an Italian ice will cool you down, so it's important to stay hydrated while slogging through the streets of Charleston. Last weekend, we investigated the multitude of outlets for liquid consumption, the essentials for any functioning human: water, beer, and coffee.

    Fired Up
I've begun to suspect that no one can make truly delicious arancini. Those little orbs of rice, stuffed with mozzarella, rolled in bread crumbs and fried: their descriptions always look so tempting on the menu, and when they arrive at your table they look even lovelier, all crisp and steamy and golden-brown.

    Big Night Out
Friday night, with a perfectly seared steak in front of me, a whole lobster in front of my girlfriend, the smell of smoke from the wood-fired grill wafting through the air, the buzz of conversation and laughter of the bar crowd vibrating around, and a white jacket-clad waitress promptly refilling my glass, I thought to myself, "Wow, this is a big night out." And big seems to be the operative word when it comes to Stars Rooftop Bar and Grill Room, a big new addition to Upper King Street.
