A true attempt at meals on wheels, the Lowcountry Street Grocery plans to offer a mobile market that follows a weekly schedule Tues.-Sat., with three stops per day. For now the roving market sells local organic produce, meat, fish, farm fresh eggs, artisanal cheeses, novelties (think Bee City Honey, D’Al’s frozen pies, Bulls Bay Sea Salt, King of Pops, etc.) sundries (think Produce candles and Old Whaling soaps), a pre-made salad vending machine, as well as live herb trays and heirloom seeds. Products will rotate with seasons and availability. The mission is to “offer these products to affluent areas so that we can funnel the revenue simultaneously into catering to food deserts and their lack of healthy produce.”
