Piggly Wiggly | Lowcountry | Stands, Stores, & Markets | Local Food

The billboard says it best: “Local Since Forever.” If there’s a new food product in town, you can bet Piggly Wiggly will be its first big retail outlet. The grocery chain’s support of local food producers is essential and extends into all of their departments. They make it pretty easy to apply. Just go to thepig.net, where there’s a link for local producers to e-mail the company if they’d like their product considered. In the produce section, the Pig stocks as many locally grown goods as it can, including Mepkin Abbey mushrooms, Slatherin’ Brands Slathering Sauce, Palmetto beer, and Rio Bertolini pasta. For shoppers, the Pig offers that unique, locally grown experience you won’t get anywhere else. In the bazillion times we’ve shopped at our neighborhood Pig, we’re always greeted warmly by the produce guys. They’re just so dang friendly.
