Barbecue sauce and pimento cheese top the fried oysters on the half shell, prepared by Chef Mike Rogers

Come with a big appetite or be prepared to eat leftovers later — local fare, big portions, and affordable pricing are what Lucky's Southern Grill is all about. Southern comfort takes center stage at this renovated Applebee's on Folly Road. They serve shrimp and grits in a big bowl loaded with local shrimp, andouille sausage, okra, and savory blue crab gravy. In the summer, a barbecue plate features an entire half-chicken, smoked and served with watermelon and bacon potato salad. The chicken plate has four pieces of crispy fried chicken, with mashed potatoes, gravy, and collard greens. You have been warned. —Eric Doksa, Dish (Summer 2012)
