Fred Dockery’s operation consists of him, his wife Catherine, and their son Evan, when he’s not in school. Dockery, a Portuguese immigrant who studied philosophy at Bates College, has been crabbing in Charleston for 15 years. During the June to October shrimping season, he catches shrimp, too. He sells crabs to Crosby’s downtown and Marvin’s Seafood in North Charleston. The Glass Onion in West Ashley gets his stone crab claws and shrimp. He’ll also sell shrimp directly to customers, but you’ll have to email him a few days in advance and be flexible.
