Ovis Hill is a livestock farm located in Timmonsville, about an hour and 45 minutes outside of Charleston. Charlie and Alice Caldwell currently raise 400 sheep and 35 dairy and beef cows along with chickens. The Caldwells have formed somewhat of a cooperative, partnering with 10 other farms to create farmers markets near Florence and Myrtle Beach. According to Charlie, one farm cannot feed hundreds of families, so he had to build a network. There’s a farm store at Ovis Hill that sells Happy Cow Creamery milk, vegetables, wool yarns, and more hard-to-find items to fuel your voyage. If you’re considering a trip out, the farm’s fall festival might be the best time to go — Oct. 26-27.
