Slightly North of Broad is a marvel among restaurants in downtown Charleston. Despite the fact that countless bars and eateries have come and gone right alongside it, S.N.O.B. has been a steadfast tent pole in the Lowcountry food scene for over 20 years. Though recently purchased by the Hall Management Group, the upscale bistro has remained virtually unchanged and still continues to delight locals and tourists alike in their eclectic dining room. Featuring a seasonally rotating menu ensures that patrons will get to enjoy meat and produce at their freshest and most ripe. One of the best items is a grilled peach salad that’s complemented by prosciutto, goat cheese and pecans. Steamed local clams make a welcome departure from the typical staple of mussels; these bivalves are served with a French accent of parsley and garlic cream sauce. An item that might cause a revolt if ever removed from S.N.O.B.’s rotation is their signature barbecue tuna. Seared to rare perfection, the fish is topped with fried oysters and drizzled with house-made mustard barbecue sauce. While the tuna is a winner, the duck breast is a photo-finish for second. When served atop seasonal veggies, the duck is a comfortable and delicious old-school treat. Even if you don’t usually save room for dessert, it’s so worth it at SNOB. Sour cream apple pie is akin to a delicious German strudel and the banana cream pie is better than your sweet Southern grandma used to make.
