The Brick is one of Charleston’s favorite watering holes. On weekends, live music echoes out the front door and sometimes there’s even a line to get in. What most people don’t know is that they’re serving up some respectable bar food. Staples like nachos, onion rings, and cheese fries can all be found here, where everything is made in-house and cooked to order. The potato skins taste like real, fresh potatoes and come loaded up with cheddar, bacon, chives, and sour cream. The Brick has pretty good burgers, which can get a bit creative (like a burger topped with Canadian bacon, a poached egg, and hollandaise). We dig the Cowboy burger, an 8-oz. beef patty topped with pepper jack cheese, bacon, sautéed onions, jalapeños, and barbecue sauce. Did we mention they have a late night-menu serving food until 1 a.m.? And if there are three words that should lure anyone to The Brick for food, they would be deep-fried-bacon. It’s like mini funnel cakes with crispy bacon tucked inside. They’re topped with powdered sugar and come with a side of warm maple syrup. Artery clogger, maybe. Ridiculously good, absolutely. —Eric Doksa,

NOTE: On April 2, a late-night fire forced the closure of Light, The Brick, Speakeasy, and Squeeze. Stay tuned to the CP for more info on what's next and find out how you can help.
The offerings at this classic East Bay watering hole are just what you want from a tavern: wings, burgers, tacos, sliders, beer-battered and fried pickles, onions, and bacon.
