Throughout his artistic career, Jerry Siegel has sought to photograph what his eyes see and what his heart connects to in the South, traveling its most desolate highways to capture fecund barren lands and its most dynamic people. In particular, Siegel’s Black Belt Series in black and white, as well as color, highlights his family home in Selma and various sites near that center point such as cemeteries and cotton fields, as well as white washed churches and shacks.
