Here’s a sentiment we can totally agree with: In the world’s wealthiest nation, no kid should grow up hungry. That’s the slogan for Share Our Strength, a national organization that raises funds and awareness for combatting childhood hunger. According to their site, 12.4 million children in America — that’s one in six — are at risk of hunger, and that number is rising in conjunction with the unemployment rate. As parents lose jobs, their kids’ risk of going hungry increases.
Share Our Strength puts on several well-known nationwide fund-raisers each year — Taste of the Nation, the Great American Bake Sale, and the Great American Dine Out.
Chef Sean Brock at McCrady’s has organized a group of chefs to take part in A Tasteful Pursuit, Share Our Strength’s traveling dinner series that brings renowned chefs to various restaurants to participate in multi-course dinners. Brock will team up with fellow Charlestonians Mike Lata of FIG and Ken Vedrinski of Sienna and Trattoria Lucca along with Tyler Brown of the Capitol Grille at the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville and RJ Cooper of Vidalia Restaurant in D.C.
