Mmmm, love that McDonalds dollar menu. I can get so much food for like, 4 bucks.
The best Chef I have ever worked for, an honor to have been part of Frank Lee's creativity...RLR
I LOVED 221 -- you turned me onto tomato and avocado and sprouts on your whole grain! MISS THAT so much! I also loved Wendy Ethel's -- ah the memories!
You are so right -- Southern food is the absolute BEST! Thanks for keeping it real!
Just think of all the fish worms and parasites you are eating..;-)
FLee!!! Stop, you're making me hungry!!! I must get back to see you again soon!!! LOVE SNOB!!!!
Awesome article, Chef.
As someone who worked with Chef in the '90s, I can attest to his passion for local, creative joined with classic techniques and absolute freshness. Chef, you have mentored many to their positions of ability in the kitchen. A doff of the toque to you!
What a great look back at how Charleston's culinary scene has evolved over the past few years and kudos to all who have stuck through the hard times and continue to strive for excellence. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that complacency doesn't set in. The better you get, the harder it is to keep up with the hype!
Best sushi in the Charleston area, and probably beyond. Anyone who likes mayo, cream cheese or deep fried rolls should know that they aren't eating sushi. You may as well stick to the McDonald's dollar menu.
The mac and cheese in that photo looks like it came right out of the box. It is NOT southern mac and cheese. FAIL!
Hi Frank
You forgot about the Bread!!!!
Re: “For Chef Frank Lee, everything old is new again, only better”
Many persons have earned the title, "chef."
But, no one can compare to Frank Lee. His passion, energy, and the vow to live vicariously through food is second to none.
I don't know how many persons have actually met Chef. But, he's the kind of guy you can't forget after you've met him. I think he still wears that silly "red chile pepper hat." I may not recognize him if he were not wearing that hat.
That guy, Chef (frank lee), is the best person you could ever hope to run across within your lifetime.
I have never met a person who could be both a boss and a friend. Frank Lee is a person that has taught me everything I know, and has helped me out of everything I didn't know. This is a man that has always kept my job for me..... even if it meant I would be away for a few weeks.
I suppose everyone is excited about Chef being a great chef.... of course!!!... but, maybe, what some persons do not know, is that Chef remained a good friend to me. Chef Frank Lee took time to make sure that I was "OK." Yes, perhaps, fish went from fresh to " an hour or two fresh." But, Frank Lee would do anything in the world for me.
If anyone is ever looking for a mentor, you best hope you could "snag" Frank Lee.
Frank Lee is the best chef that has existed within the USA.
