Re: “R. Kitchen

Best out of town restaurant dining experience my wife and I have ever had! We dropped in after seeing the place while walking to another restaurant. I immediately recognized Chef Ross from our dining at Leaf. The place was full (I think reservations only), but Chef Ross sat us anyway and that began a dining experience without equal. It was like sitting in the Chef's kitchen and having him prepare a 5 course meal on the spot just for us. All the other diners were just as amazed. WOW! I'm telling you this is where we will head on our next trip to Charleston.

Love the food, the atmosphere and the people! If you can not afford to go out to eat than stay at home! Their prices are in line with any excellent restaurant!

Re: “Zero Cafe + Bar

Had an outstanding meal here last week. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to try new, interesting and fun food. The service was great and all in all one of the highlights of our trip! Can't wait to come back and try the new dishes as chef mentioned they change weekly.

Re: “Diggity Donuts

Ambre is now in a storefront location (616 Meeting Street)!! This is my best dream come true. I have been in love with Diggity Doughtnuts for the past several years. No one makes a better doughnut, no one. Sublime is an inadequate word to describe these amazing creations. And now to be able to walk through a door & purchase them at my leisure (Thursday through Sunday)? It doesn't get better than this. Bring on the Nutty Roosters!!!

Re: “Zia Taqueria

My husband and I eat at Zia at least twice a month. We don't prefer the order at register concept so we always set in the bar area and receive wonderful service. Although our favs are chicken enchiladas and tortilla soup, we've tried almost everything on the menu. Although not all the bartenders are as friendly as others, the service is good and we enjoy every last bite!

Re: “Marina Variety Store

We had a nice experience here for lunch. The cost of food has made it difficult for places like this to provide good food at a value. My wife had the lobster Po Boy and I had the grilled shrimp. The lobster was very lightly fried which is not an easy thing to do. Much easier, and most places do, batter heavy and fry the hell out of something. This was not the case. Really well prepared.

The shrimp was OK but a very small portion. The bread was at the end of it's freshness so really didn't eat much of it. The service was good to very good. As a rookie I didn't know to bring my parking ticket with to be validated so my server said "no problem, I'll get you a pass." Much appreciated.

As an old dog with lots of experience, it's obvious to me that this is a breakfast place and I can't wait to give it another try.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

The food isn't bad at all, and the prices are in line with what you get but - as many other reviewers have noted - the owners and some of the staff are overfamiliar to the point of creepiness, and it comes across as insincere. Lay off the gladhanding - you're trying way too hard.

All these ridiculously verbose five-star reviews from users with no other reviews - hello, cantw84sumr, Laura M. Dixon, marks0112, maddiecakes? These have all the - uh - hallmarks of being shills for the restaurant.

Re: “Zia Taqueria

I have been there about a dozen times since they opened. I like the food a lot and have never noticed an attitude by the cashier/bartender or the wait staff.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

I have been to Halls three times. My first experience, I will admit, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. We arrived to the restaurant and there were some very friendly people working there. I had the best steak I've ever eaten with some of the best side items. It was an incredibly pleasant and tasty experience. Having ordered steak at several other restaurants, I think the price was comparable and I haven't found anything to compare to the taste. I left Halls with an awesome impression and really enjoyed it. Obviously it is not somewhere I could afford to eat regularly. My second experience was at the Sunday Gospel Brunch. I had sweet potato pancakes and having had them at a restaurant in Nashville, TN that is famous for them, Hall's tasted better. During this visit to Halls, I did find the wait staff to come by a little more than I wanted them to. The restaurant was not as busy as the first time I dined there so I assumed that's why. My last experience occurred last night and it was by far the best. Yes Billie is very friendly. It's something that throws you off if you aren't expecting it, but that's just how they do things there. I had another amazing steak and our table enjoyed delicious sides. We went for a birthday celebration, and they gave us free shots. We had birthday cake at home so we didn't order dessert but they gave us free cake to take home anyway. On top of that, there was a live band playing that sounded awesome. It was overall a really fun night and celebration. I can see where some people would find the Hall family annoying by their over friendliness or how the wait staff clears the table for you or serves you sides, but to me that is just part of the experience. They want to treat you well and make sure you have a good time. I have had awesome experiences each time and will continue to go back when I can. I also find it nice that they mail a hand written note thanking you for your visit. Do they need to do that, no? Is it really nice, yes! I am so glad I did not read any of the reviews on here before forming my own opinion. I would challenge others to do the same. Yes you should expect to pay a good bit (you can check the menu prices before you go), yes expect the wait staff to be overly helpful or friendly, expect one of the Hall family members to greet you and try and talk to you. They may even give you some jelly beans. If you don’t like human interaction get a cheap steak at Walmart and stay home. Halls was packed last night so there are a lot of people out there that would disagree with the negative reviews here. I would also like to add that I am not a tourist. I am sorry other people have had a bad experience at Halls, but I surely have always had a great time. Saw Thomas Ravenel there last night.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

I don't know where any of these bad reviews come from. Maybe from insecure people uncomfortable going into a fine dining restaurant and someone knowing your name even though you made a reservation in advance? No idea. If you don't like feeling 'warm', then call it appreciated.

We always feel very appreciated that we chose to eat at this restaurant when we do. Halls Chophouse is a wonderful restaurant. Do not let bad reviews fool you! Yes, it is loud downstairs, but not nearly as loud upstairs. Wonderful steaks that could possibly make a vegetarian reconsider their ways.

My favorite experience I've had at Halls:
After a busy day of moving, we set out for WINGS!! I was in fleece lined leggings (sweats, basically - you probably wouldn't want to do this on a busy weekend night for your own sake of dignity!) and he was dressed down as well. It was after 10pm on a week night and after a bad experience at a neighborhood wings restaurant, we headed downtown while I called every restaurant down the list Google pulled up. Halls was open and we were on the way! We almost didn't go in because of how we were dressed, but Billy greeted us at the door and we totally forgot about the crazy day we had as we walked up the stairs. One delicious, melt in our mouths, savory tomahawk steak; several scrumptious sides [- omg, the mashed potatoes and truffle! to die for!!!]; amazing desserts; and a couple perfect drinks later - we were stuffed, amazed at the service, and planning to come back for our special occasions when we have more time. Cannot say enough about how much Halls is worth the time, experience, and money!!! It's not McDonald's people - you don't eat there everyday. Make time for it and save up the money so you don't have to worry about it! Geez!

Re: “Phuong Restaurant

I am an Afro-American male from Philadelphia, PA and have eaten Vietnamese food for forty years.
The Pho was very tasty, service great: only the second time being served by non-Vietnamese waiters. Although the Pho was very good I have never paid $9.99 for a medium size bowl of Pho. I would eat there again.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Overpriced. Average food. WEIRD management. I have never been to a restaurant with such intrusive owners. It is CREEPY. Go to wikipedia and look up pompous and you will see Billy's face. So many better options in this city. Don't bother.

Re: “SOL Southwest Kitchen and Tequila Bar

The food quality has taken a serious nose dive like just about every restaurant in town eventually does. When ingredients are missing from dishes as they are described on the menu, and a lack of consistency in preparation becomes evident, it usually means the owners are off someplace enjoying the spoils of their initial success. Of course, the reality of a food and beverage business is that it can be like a demanding and unforgiving mistress. If ignored or neglected one might return some day to find her gone like Cinderella at midnight. Fortunately, the service is still super here and the bartenders are the finest looking females on the planet. Since most in Mount Pleasant only care about where to get a drink on next, SOL has some time left at the Ball. The clock is ticking loudly in the kitchen though.

Re: “The Green Goat

Great food at good prices. We were in Charleston for a week & ate here 3 times.
The fish & chips special on Friday is tasty. Burgers & pork chops are excellent.
The sides are inventive & don't miss the desserts. The service was excellent.
We are looking forward to eating here on our next visit in the spring
