AMEN, Dustin -- But why am I not surprised? I discussed the potential risks from (and possible fixes to) the multiple impacts of sea level rise in my 2007 City Paper cover story, "Under the Sea: Greetings from Charleston's Underwater Future." My thinking at the time did not extend to sea level rise's likely risks to the power grid. But climate change deniers who have never studied the science, the politicians who listen to them and money-grubbing coastal developers (not to mention the general public's head-in-the-sand acceptance of inaction), may well have already doomed the Lowcountry and our beloved city to gradual, but inevitable drowning -- maybe sooner than anybody expects. Does anybody listen when accurate local record-keeping over the past half-century tells us that the rate of coastal flooding in and around Charleston has increased fourfold since the 1960s (I was around then, too!)??
I am convinced that climate change is THE issue of our times, and that its catastrophic consequences will inevitably multiply the closer you get to coastal regions anywhere in the world. For quite some time now, the Pentagon has been developing contingency plans to cope with the conflicts that will certainly arise as untold millions of climate change refugees attempt to resettle inland (I should know: I'm an ex-Army Officer). I doubt I'll live long enough to witness the worst of it -- but I already grieve for my children's and grandchildren's chances for survival in a world that's becoming increasingly uninhabitable. -- Lindsay Koob
This shit's been going on since this country was founded, and it certainly isn't confined to SC.
Moredock: hater of all things white, male, and Southern. Poor guy. I don't know how he lives with himself.
Great read, Dustin. Smart, informative and relevant.
Ms. Deerin has made her place in the community among the LGBT's, She resigns herself to that group that God has condemned , so why do you scream so ?
Deerin couldn't get anywhere near heaven even with Angel wings, God does not allow lesbians there, those wings are false here as well.

Aaron this is awesome! Good luck from all your fans at Burtons Grill!
Do you people realize that these scientists are talking about measuring levels of precision to the millimeter concerning global sea levels and to the tenth of a degree centigrade for global temperatures? Not only are they making such very precise measurements of global values that themselves are incredibly fluid, they've gone back to times when there were not even measuring devices and 'figured out' the exact temperatures and sea levels to the same level of precision. This is beyond ridiculous, it's ludicrous.
We only reserve the front page for raccoons. :(
Damn! That turkey. That turkey looks like it should be on my plate for T-day (or any day). That turkey looks like the king of all turkey. That turkey deserves to be on the front page of CP. That turkey is definitely the best turkey in all of Charleston.
wish you HUGE luck Aaron and lots of fun DT from Joan and Exchange Factor !
does anyone know exactly how much te water level in Charleston has risen in the last 50 years? an inch? a foot? it should be easy to determine with records kept by the coast guard, harbor master, ports auth. etc.
Greenville & Charleston are totally different animals, both of which have their positives and negatives. I will say, just speaking on behalf of Gville, that there are many locals working extremely hard to ensure that we become the city that we want to become. Jobs are plentiful and we're proud to be a locally owned and operated business in Gville! Cheers!!
Fluff, a lot of fluff! Doesn't surprise me at all, what did was BM was involved
Hey, "charleston native" Doesn't "thin-skinned ass" count as an obscenity?
This is a great store with a great selection and there are lots of gems among the $1 records. It's an area of King St. where there's always lots of parking so it's not a hassle to get to.
Would like to see second season!!!
How can someone seriously ask "what's the root of all this? &"what do we do about it?" It is really not that hard to determine; I have lived here for 2 mos., possibly observing the worst of the worst flooding. Where I live is built in marsh and wetlands. Over development in these areas is very obvious. Dirt does not hang around forever w/out eroding. Cement is made of sand and dirt. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust....... The sink holes will not ignore areas like this one.

Why do they clip the ears of cats they neutor at the shelter? I see them all of the time, and my friend who owns one told me that they clip the ears of the cats so that the cat catchers know that they have been "fixed".
Is the SPCA funded by Mike Tyson?
Sounds like they live by the code of Hamurabi. Does the vet get paid in cat ears? Is that what is in the hot dog meat at the Scotchman? Do they make a good SHE CAT soup? She cat soup anyone? ha ha ha
"ear tipping" just seems barbaric to me. Is this necessary when we microchip every smartphone with a 5 cent GPS chip? Other countries like Jordan have a lot of feral cats (almost like NY city has pigeons), but they roam the streets and are even fed by people as wild pets that refuse to be pet (but they loyally hang around their house all day killing snakes and other pests..)
Why in this country do we attempt to scar them for being FREE after cutting their balls off? I can MAYBE understand spaying and neutering them, but cutting the tips of their ears off as well just seems barbaric when we have microchips that they can put on them (it would also let them know where "cat colonies" would exist to help monitor and deal with them). If the SPCA doesn't get any funding for it the government should give them funding instead of the "war on terror". Call it the "war on free kittens".
I stand in solidarity with the kittens! I understand why this one resorted to pissing in this persons bed. His cousin probably lost an ear to the ANIMAL SHELTER. ALso everyone KILL YOUR TV.
I think "ear clipping" amounts to animal cruelty even if it is well meaning animal cruelty, because it makes them "less cute" thus hurting their chances of finding someone that loves them and leaves a plate of food out for them despite being wild (what they do in other places in the world).
Also the spell check in this third rate comments section flagged the word NEUTOR as misspelled, but a google search provided the answer that it was the correct spelling. Another case of an ignorant system trying to educate me incorrectly as to what to believe when the fact is I was right all along.
Plus why spay and neutor them when we can just eat them later? HA HA. We could have a feral cat hunting season! That would be more humane than cutting off their balls and then clipping an ear as a souvenir.
Can someone answer this for me>?
