Re: “So you wanna buy local gifts? We're here to help

Also, don't forget about Fire & Earth Fine Pottery off of Ashley River Road. Absolutely beautiful pottery hand-crafted by local potter, Kris Neal.

Re: “TEDx Charleston: Maybe we can change the world

Connelly, thanks for your write-up on the 2016 TED X Charleston event. I could not have described the event better myself. TED X Charleston 2016 was inspirational, a real eye opener that challenged me to drink in life with eyes wide open to opportunities for sharing my God-given gifts in new, unexplored way. One action I have already committed to is participating as a TED X Charleston volunteer for 2017. Another is volunteering twice a week with Reading Partners South Carolina to help a struggling student learn to read with better understanding and proficiency.

Little known to the public are the ways that TED X Charleston gets involved before, during with after the day of the event. TED's commitment of "inclusion" extends beyond socio-economic and racial diversity to include geography, gender, and industry. Some of the events attended by TED X volunteers and friends this year included a "Women in Technology" meeting, as well as a resource/job fair hosted by the Housing Authority. All 10 Title One schools in the area were invited to the TED X Charleston Dress Rehearsal. Nine schools accepted the invitation. Two other area schools asked if they could attend. I am happy to report that a total of 11 schools participated and between 415-450 students attended.

Re: “TEDx Charleston: Maybe we can change the world

Ted Talks do a great job of preaching to the choir about how we need social revolution. What good have any of them actually done? This is another mostly white middle-to-upper class circle jerk where so-called progressives get to feel good about themselves and pat themselves on the back despite not actually doing anything to make the world better. "At $65 a pop" the cost of admission doesn't really speak to the inclusiveness that these people pretend they care about.

Do you think that station will start early in playing Kwanzaa music?

Re: “'American Pickers' is looking for your cool stuff

ALL so-called "reality shows" are like that. The dialogue might not be pre-scripted but the scenes and set-ups are all pre-planned.

Re: “'American Pickers' is looking for your cool stuff

Those guys came to my friends place. The meeting was pre-arranged and producers came by first to see what he had. It's basically fake. They pulled into his driveway like they just happen to find it.
