Many times, this is true.

This isn't one of those times.

Meet the new administration...same as the old administration. Just trade the war in Iraq for a war on the First Amendment.

Re: “Mark Sanford rises from the dead

Mat, I'm with you on the film incentives. As much as I like lower taxes, I want them for everyone; not the government picking winners and losers with subsidizies and favored status for one or two industries. I'm not sure why you claim it's libertarian...that's not something I see many libertarians agreeing with.

"the whole concept of Libertarian ideology is sort of 'every person for themselves'"

I think this is where you get libertarianism wrong in much of your writings. Independence and individualism are great, but so are teamwork and community. Libertarianism isn't about going it alone. It's about non-aggression and making choices of one's own free will. It's skeptical of government because government is legally empowered to violate those principles. Libertarianism isn't so much about humans' relations with each other as it is about their relations with government. It's voluntarism vs force.

Living in the woods, making your own clothes and killing your food doesn't mean you're a libertarian. And giving to charity, eating at restaurants and participating in a community yard sale doesn't mean you aren't one.

Great to see you on the task, Jeff. Trust me when I say I know *exactly* how you feel. Looking forward to running into you next week.

mat has the typical flatulence, baseless, stupidity flying out his ass. mat, you might want to every once and a while at least fake trying to post something remotely factual or verifiable when rebutting me and others. Or at least try it in your baseless, factless, opinion oriented rants you call journalism.

@pugnax ... maybe a black man can give you the fats better than I ...

Re: “Nikki Haley appoints member of white power organization to campaign

Pronghorn ... You are aware that pretty much every culture has been both slave and slave owner at some point?

Africans caught and sold other Africans as slaves.

Indians before America was colonized fought, caught, killed, and raped other indians. Often assimilated the women & children and used or traded the males as slaves.

Blacks in America, and Charleston, had black slaves. Many whites were indentured servants.

People act like America invented slavery and it was based on racism & hatred. It was pure economics. West African slaves were especially valued in SC because they had been cultivating rice for 1,000 years.

Liberals love to label everything as racist because they are too stupid or lazy to know and understand the facts. And racism is a cowards way of avoiding the truth and a desperate attempt to slander & discredit the messenger.

But rather than argue with the usual moronic liberals on here I'll let a black man, one of the most respected academics in America, the product of slavery, southern depression era racism and poverty, and a self professed former liberal radical do my arguing for me ...

Re: “Nikki Haley appoints member of white power organization to campaign

Yep, many of our plantation slaves were dazzling white and served black masters. And "White" Guatemalan, recently convicted of genocide and promptly de-convicted Reagan protégé E. Rios Mont killed mainly fellow white Guatemalans. The examples are overwhelming.

You know that my post is funny, artrogue.

Personally and emotionally speaking, I found your post disappointing in terms of syntax.

Re: “Cartoon 'child porn' & 3D printer guns, the 1st Amendment protects them both

One could also build a gun out of stuff you can buy at Royall hardware. And it would be safer, more effective and cheaper than this 3D printer goofiness..

But making self-contained metallic cartridges to fire out of your homemade gun...now that's the hard part.

Re: “Nikki Haley appoints member of white power organization to campaign

I'm not familiar with the CofC. Their mission statement sounds fine (not non-controversial, this is America) except the "we oppose all efforts to mix the races of mankind" part. If they mean they oppose any policy efforts of governments to achieve that, then so do I, along with opposing any policy effort to prevent races rom mixing, since that's a matter of personal choice.

What I do know for sure is that the SPLC is a total joke. So I'm not inclined to care too much about this.

Re: “The Film Incentive Bill hurts you and me

@artrogue - I agree. I hate crony capitalism nearly as much as communism & socialism. There should be NO gubment bailouts or "too big to fail". I'm against ALL subsidies of ANY kind. Farm, corporate, or social. I'm in favor of term limits and a low flat tax with zero deductions or a small national sales tax. Both can easily be created in ways to not hurt people in the lowest 1/3 or 1/4 but EVERYONE needs to have a bit of skin in the game.

Re: “S.C. couple sues MUSC over unnecessary sex reassignment surgery

I don't know either, never assume or pretend I do, but it sure is odd how one god is hated by the left while all others are championed. And the one god they hate happens to be the god their political enemies worship. Coincidence? I think not. Thus, once again proving the left is not the rational, intelligent, educated elite they hold themselves to be!!

Re: “The Film Incentive Bill hurts you and me

This is one time i have to agree with Mat. sort of..in a round about way..
ON a Federal level..: Crony capitalists, among whom are Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Countrywide, Bear Stearns, JPMorgan Chase, General Motors and Chrysler. These and many other companies, through the thousands of Washington lobbyists they hire, are able to get Congress to shortcut market forces.
Free market capitalism is unforgiving. In order to earn a profit and stay in business, producers must please customers and wisely use resources to do so. If they fail to do this, they face losses or go bankrupt.
It’s this market discipline of profits and losses that many businesses seek to avoid. That’s why they descend upon Washington calling for government bailouts, subsidies and special privileges. Many businessmen wish not to be held strictly accountable to consumers and stockholders, who hold little sympathy for economic blunders and will give them the ax on a moment’s notice.
With a campaign contribution here and a gift there, they get Congress and the White House to act against the best interests of consumers and investors.

On the state level...when it comes to the film industry, i just don't see the numbers being worth the investment of our tax dollars or tax breaks.
At least since 1981, I've seen people push for film industries to come to South Carolina. The starting of the film program at Trident Tech to fill the many openings that were supposedly coming here and yet ...very few jobs.
Its just a pipe dream.
I hope i'm wrong, but for whatever reason the film industry just doesn't see us the way we see ourselves and there are just so many options for locations.

Another "rise" from the dead, this time the scumbag is a liberal..
Anthony Weiner announced late Tuesday that he would run for mayor of New York.
I'm one conservative who was adamant in my opposition to Mark Sanford, and I
will do no less for the sleazebag Mr. Weiner.
