Re: “Why the best year in South Carolina's filmmaking history might be its last good year

I sure hope they smarten up and get us on par with Georgia and No. Carolina and do it quickly. There are a lot of us here whose lives depend on it. I too am in the industry and would love to see more work here for everyone. This is a non brainer. Great incentives, more jobs more revenue it really is that simple.
It brings more goodness than not.

Re: “Herb Silverman's newest essay collection suggests how we can be "good without God"

"I'm agnostic. I'm one of those wishy-washy irreligious folks who doesn't quite want to claim the title of "atheist.""

Okay, so if you aren't an atheist, which god do you believe in? Because agnosticism doesn't address the issue of faith - it's about knowledge, and EVERYONE is agnostic, whether they adopt the label or not, because it's impossible to know everything about anything.

You either believe in a god, or you don't. There is no wishy-washy middle ground.

I think this was the last theater in town that you could go to for under $10. What a shame to lose this hidden gem.

Re: “The Agenda: The Gamecocks did it; Conservatives get behind medical marijuana; More N. Chs. police settlements

Legalize recreational use. Far less dangerous than alcohol, which IS the deadliest drug known to mankind and IS the "gateway" drug to more dangerous chemical (man-made, not natural) based drugs and prescription drugs, all of which can lead to overdoses, including alcohol. Marijuana, by comparison, has no overdose threshold, leaves the user cognizant, if not a little over-elated, but in control of their faculties. TV really is not representative of it's true affects as they just want to satisfy a viewing audience. It is a vaso-diolater reducing blood pressure while lessening work for the heart. It is a happy substance and the only anger and violence that is a result of marijuana is the "so-called" drug war - the illegality of it. Marijuana was made illegal and into a schedule 1 drug back in the 60s so the "prudes" could control, through legal intimidation; the "liberal hippies" and the "brothers and sisters", and had nothing whatsoever to do with danger of its use. Instead the use was a danger to controlling the masses, which is how our political system works - all about power and control and not about what is BEST for our citizens.

Re: “MENU: DB's Cheesesteaks makes its triumphant return Saturday

We've tried now to go on 2 different Sundays around 7 (after church at Blessed Sacrament next door). One Sunday the sign on the door said they were out of food and would reopen the next day. Yesterday (3/26) they were closed again with a sign on the door saying they would reopen Monday. Not in any hurry to try going back :(

Re: “Bipartisan 'disturbing schools' legislation passes an important procedural hurdle

Sadly the schools we attended and the behavior of the kids in the schools has greatly deteriorated since we were there Mr. Green.

Today, school administrators stand to be sued if they don't take action if one student bullies another. Of course, this isn't an issue with parents who actually parent their children and not make excuses for their kid's actions.

Trial lawyers have made a fortune by suing school districts for either enforcing the rules or not enforcing the rules.

Re: “James Island gains a fast/casual spot with Hen and The Goat

James Islanders are tough on restaurants that don't know what they are and jack up the prices on their food like generic King Street burger joints for the touristas. Prime example was the recent closure of Stereo 8, a place with lots of promise but lack focus, so-so food and over priced offerings. It last less than a year.

Hen and Goat take notice

Re: “The birth of a new environmental movement

I guess Mr. Woods doesn't even bother to read his own hometown paper regarding this environmental disaster:

"Clean-up crews are racing to clear acres of debris at the largest Dakota Access protest camp before the spring thaw turns the snowy, trash-covered plains into an environmental disaster area. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced Friday that the camp, located on federal land, would be closed Feb. 22 in order to prevent injuries and significant environmental damage in the likely event of flooding in this area at the mouth of the Cannonball River in North Dakota.

Without proper remediation, debris, trash, and untreated waste will wash into the Cannonball River and Lake Oahe, the Corps said in its statement. Those involved in the clean-up effort, led by the Standing Rock Sioux, say it could take weeks for private sanitation companies and volunteers to clear the expanse of abandoned tents, teepees, sleeping bags, blankets, canned food, supplies and just plain garbage littering the Oceti Sakowin camp.

Its unfortunate. Again, that just goes against what theyre fighting against, is leaving that stuff and abandoning it and obviously the environment the river, Scott Davis, North Dakota Commissioner for Indian Affairs, told KFYR-TV in Bismarck."

Re: “Those who compare Confederate soldiers to Hitler should look at Lincoln

Texas retained it's right to sovereignty, which is why it is the only state flag that can be flown at the same height as the US flag.
And the Corwin Amendment was passed by the 36th Congress and ratified by 6 states, not enough to make it law. However, it STILL sits on the books and can be ratified if states choose. Case in point, MD just rescinded it's ratification in 2014. Texas also reconsidered ratification in 1963.
So...Congress needs to remove it from ever possibly being ratified. Think about that.

Re: “Those who compare Confederate soldiers to Hitler should look at Lincoln

Thank you for trying to educate and inform people with some facts and truth and while it is true that SC cited the failure of the federal government to enforce the fugitive slave act in its secession document, North Carolina, Virginia and the Cherokee nation did not. The causes of secession and the war are numerous and complex and not as simple as people are told to believe they are and that the ludicrous and ignorant comparisons to the Confederacy and the Nazis and the swastika to the battle Flag are little more than thinly veiled efforts to make anyone tht feels pride, honour or in fact anything positive about the Confederacy automatically as a Nazi, racist and something to be ashamed off.
