Re: “The media, elected officials unite with big business to oppose unions

I'm pleased to have elected officials on the side of the businesses that provide jobs for the people.

Re: “It's time to bring back slavery

The "unarmed black shootings" are not about racism as much as they are about civil disobedience and news media selling space. We almost never hear about "unarmed white shootings by police" because it does not bring ad money into the media and there are no baiters like Sharpton championing the spread of that news.

Let me get this right, Chris Haire is upset by what some Duke professor wrote about regarding Baltimore. Stop the fricken press. LOL, the strange land of Haireworld on display.

Re: “The I'm-Not-Racists are right — black people are the cause of racism

Clearly the writer never worked as a minority or grew up as a minority or racism would not be a sarcasm topic. It would be a real thing you never bring up in a debate.

"Sounds much like the former Dow 30 now mostly defunct company I used to work for.
Except even the engineers didn't get paid $30/ hr., only the parasitical and disastrous management."

Yes, and there is a lot of embellishing going on when talking about what the UAW employees make. This article lays out the real facts.
http://www.factcheck.org/2008/12/auto-work…

This is an important note at the end:
"A final note on all this: Labor costs only account for about 10 percent of the cost of producing a vehicle. And it’s not the cost of American cars that people complain about; they’re already often thousands of dollars less than their Japanese counterparts. Whatever changes may be made in the carmakers’ labor agreements, we’re convinced, and the recent hearings show, that there are much bigger problems in Detroit."

Re: “Duke prof posts racially inflammatory comment on NY Times story

I'm not sure what this guy was thinking. It just shows that you can get a Ph.D., be a professor of a subject at a name university, and still be an idiot. First off, he shouldn't be posting in forums, not because it isn't his right, but because, in general, professors aren't really that great about summing up their thoughts in a succinct fashion (especially social science and humanities academics). This is a generalization, but one based on observation over the course of 3 degrees. Second, he should know better than to make generalizations and then attempting to assign correlation. So the Asian folks with Asian names (of which there are plenty), show no desire for integration? Or that all black folks have "strange" names? Or that the problem in interracial dating is that black folks loathe their sons/daughters marrying the white folks? He only offers generalities and anecdotal evidence to attempt to prove his point. His points in the post are not better than me generalizing professors.

Re: “The Agenda: Inquiry into Chs. schools; Local car exports to double; Tin foil hats for Limehouse's Sharia law debate

I am sooooo sure that the Federal Office on Civil Rights is going to do a good job. Enjoy your status as a top ten school while you have it, AMHS, you are getting ready to be forced to accept people because of their race and not their academic achievements. Instead of blaming the admissions process why not try and figure out what is going wrong before they even get there? Why are there not as many minority kids A) applying and B) prepared to apply? Address those problems and this one will go away.

Re: “The media, elected officials unite with big business to oppose unions

"End of story? people stopped buying cars that sucked and Detroit collapsed...Wow brilliant thesis. How about union backed workers who made absurd wages caused detroit auto makers to spend less money on improvements and new technology and hence their cars sucked. When you have to pay a guy who sweeps the floor 25 bucks an hour because he is union things start to take a downward spiral from there. Ford and other auto makers rebounded because they moved their ass out of Detroit and away from the unions."

Having worked in the auto industry for over a decade, I can tell you this is completely false. Unions didn't kill GM. GM was notoriously fat up top, and made some very poor investment decisions. Mix that in with some quality blunders and the recession economy, and you see the result. Ford only survived by liquidating many assets and changing up management when things started to go downhill.
http://archive.fortune.com/2011/01/12/auto…

I can remember in 2006-2007, when Ford was cutting a lot of the fat up top. The job market was sort of flooded with old Ford management. My company at the time actually hired one of the ex-Ford managers, and we could see why he was let go. I find it interesting that people always focus on the line workers making $30+ per hour, while ignoring the excess at the top. When a company has 30+ divisions, each with a Senior VP, VP, Directors, and managers, it is easy to point out some waste.

Re: “Duke prof posts racially inflammatory comment on NY Times story

Yeah, fuck those black people for being subjugated by whites for 400 years, economically, socially and culturally crippled by Jim Crow, and having the audacity to not crawl out of the cellar after only 47 years in a climate of residual institutional racism.

You guys are assholes.
