Re: “Tom Colicchio gets heat for filming 'Top Chef: Charleston' at former slave plantation

Boone hall has hosted the Low Country Oyster Festival for decades (34 years ?) and it has been frequented by all races of oyster lovers the entire time. Now some are offended because they cooked oysters at Boone Hall? Stop looking for things that offend you and just enjoy the south charm that is South Carolina and Charleston TODAY. It is our past that made our culinary roots and it has taken off from there.

Re: “Tom Colicchio gets heat for filming 'Top Chef: Charleston' at former slave plantation

At least he was upfront and honest, which is how Charleston is as a whole. We know our history and that some of it not always pleasant, pretty and shiny. You have to take the good with the bad in the history of every place in the world to understand culture and how society has moved forward. Dwelling in the past is not learning from it. Take the lessons learned and create a better future.

"I don't judge either side by the outliers, nor would any intelligent person."

Er.....you just did. (See comment above beginning with "No, "the Trump-fearers" are just rioting")

But to say trumpsters are all behaving non-violently is not true. If HRC had won, you thing trumpsters would sit back and say all is well? Hell, they don't do it when they won:

Re: “Prepare for religious-based registrations under Trump

People that voted for Trump are overwhelmingly calm and will remain calm and supportive of friends and neighbors, regardless of their political beliefs. Just like in 2008 and 2012 when most of those same people were on the losing side.

There are nutjob fringe elements on both sides. I don't judge either side by the outliers, nor would any intelligent person.

If civil liberties of American citizens are actually threatened, whether it's the 1st or 2nd Amendments or others, Trump supporters are on the correct side of the issue, I assure you.

Stricter immigration controls from nations associated with terrorists that have attacked US people and interests are not civil rights violations, and we must be honest that the majority of terrorist attacks in the world today are associated with Islam. There is no registry of American Muslims nor will there be. Muslims are not being rounded up, nor will they be. Your advice to stay calm is very timely.

Re: “Dear America, don't freak out about the tiny crabs inside the oysters on the 'Top Chef: Charleston' premiere

Any native coastal South Carolinian knows that A) it's normal and you eat them and B) they're good luck.

Sadly, this article is necessary.

i caught and sold wild mussel for years, and if the pea crabs were more than a few percent in the mussels, they didn't want them. Something about a a crab that looks like a tick with eyes that really freaks people out.

Re: “Central Mosque of Charleston invites community to attend open house Sat. Dec. 3

I am a Trump supporter. Every single Trump supporter I know, has no issues with Islam & law abding Muslims. We do not agree with Sharia Law! The issue is with those who have hijacked the religion & are killing innocent people.
Please do not believe the mainstream media. Most Trump supporters are the opposite of how we are portrayed by the media and by the Clinton "cult" .It is so ugly how the media has been promoting a false narrative and how their viewers bought into it.

Re: “Stegelin: If Nazi something, say something!

If you were tormented by bullies throughout your formative years and that bullying continued well into adulthood (in fact it continues today by gop leadership and various theological entities, given that I'm a faggot), you would be 100% against installing one as your leader. He is 100% opposite of what this country has held up as role models for our future generations yet everyone seems ok with an asshole in control of the world. Goes 100% against most christians upbringing, yet they support his boorish and disrespectful behavior. I'm ashamed of this countries citizens.

Love the noodle house. Great people, service, prices and food. They have a very nice variety of asian dishes and lots of great fresh flavors. I love going there.

Re: “What does the future hold for Burke's Stoney Field?

CCSD is driving this train and they should not be as they are not putting any funding into the renovation. CCSD leadership is running scared from addressing the real options available. They are intimidated by African Amercian leadership whom I found to be very open-minded about the options available on the penisula. The renovation numbers as described above are way off City of Charleston estimates. I know all these comments to be factual as I spent better part of 10 months meeting with everyone from state, county, city, Citadel, etc. discussing the many options available. Going to take strong leader to take this issue on and take the lead (that leader has not emerged yet). That leadership does not exist right now at CCSD and I am hopeful that it is Mayor Tecklenburg that stands up and does the right thing. Building back at Stoney Field is not the right thing to do.

Re: “Can Burke High School unite Charleston?

I believe in Charleston that we can set the stage for what being united, by keeping Burke alive and well. Being united first has to start at the local government level. It's always been to my understanding that the county, city, and state governments support the same people. Then why not each do their part to save an institution that can unite and serve everyone well.

I see they had to take down one at least hate-filled, threatening comment already. Point proven. This 57 year old white woman will stand by all disenfranchised people. Hate cannot be allowed to reign.

Re: “Prepare for religious-based registrations under Trump

I was thinking about the differing responses in our community in Charleston, not the response in faraway cities. Thanks for reminding me, some anti-Trump protesters are indeed behaving violentlybut there's always a violent faction in every group. Not every conservative bombs abortion clinics.

But the main point is, we all need to calm down and reach out to each other, and be aware that civil liberties and institutions need to be defended, because a threat to one is a threat to all.

Re: “Stegelin: If Nazi something, say something!

Everything you mentioned has already either been proven false or suspect !
Some of those allegations come from a divorce and upset ex wife. We all know how charged that can be.
"Reports that Bannon had told his ex-wife that he doesnt want their children to go to school with Jews were.... utterly untrue,
Its pretty much grasping at straws when all they have is a disgruntled ex-wife in a contentious divorce document making a claim that he disputed.

Please do some more research into the man's actual deeds not words and what other well respected Jewish Americans say about the man.

Israel has no bigger supporter than Steve Bannon..and Andrew Breitbart.
"Israels ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, and Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel have publicly backed Bannon, as have other Jewish groups, including the Zionist Organization of America."

No American Citizen should be worried about the incoming administration.

Re: “Stegelin: If Nazi something, say something!

Bannon's a documented bigot.....anti-semite (too many Jewish kids at his child's school will make his and all kid's whiny brats), anti-gay (referring to lesbians as "Dykes" and the trans-gendered as "Trannies") and anti-woman as reflected by his own approved Brietbart articles:
"Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive and Crazy"
"There's No Hiring Bias Against Women in Tech, They Just Suck At Interviews"
"The Solution To Online 'Harassment' Is Simple: Women Should Log Off"

Don't know if that defines him as a "Nazi" but he shares some aspects of their mindset and he certainly thinks men are superior to women and non-Jewish (of whatever sort) superior to the Jewish since they are whiny brats and all.

And he certainly lacks respect for ALL humans, which is enough to question his character and motivation as a "Chief Strategist" to the leader of the free-world.

Include me, a 52 year old white woman, as well! I stand with Debbie McDaniel, Shani Gilchrist, Amanda Hamilton and all the other folks who are against hate and threats and second-class citizenship for certain Americans.
