Re: “A letter from an Iranian American to Charleston

I'm glad I'm not the only one that just doesn't get the whole part Iranian, part this , part that..... I suppose we could all trace back our heritage to show we're part this & that! We live in this great country & enjoy our freedoms because AMERICANS DIED to give us thESE LUXURIES. Since when did loving your country & being patriotic become so taboo?

Re: “A letter from an Iranian American to Charleston

NerdHerd, first, thank you for your response. I mean no personal insults to anyone on this blog. I respect your opinions and offer my own, nothing more.

I feel what you really want here is non-dissenting dialog where we all sit and congratulate ourselves on our single mindedness. That's not going to happen. Without dissent, we fail to understand the opposing perspective. My statement, in retrospect, probably was not the best way to get my point across, and I can conceded that. Your rebuttal allows me to learn and to better present my opposing view in a less confrontational manner, which I will continue to strive toward. I do read opposing comments from others respectfully, and am, on occasion, swayed in some of my own thinking.

I attempt to present the opposite side of the general opinion here, in the hope that not everyone gets the idea the entire world feels the same as they do. City Paper may ban me, that is their prerogative, but you will not. Feel free to hit that report button if you have not already done so, but please, until I am banned, keep on coming back at me. I am an adult and can take it, and I appreciate the dialog, for or against, as I too will learn that not all think as I do.

Re: “Stegelin: This week in 'Trump History'

In some disturbing news yesterday, President Trump tweeted about how unfairly a well-known retailer had treated his daughter. While not disturbing in, and of itself, the tweet posted WHILE he was receiving his security briefing (isn't he supposed to be focused on keeping us safe?). The retailer had already planned to cut back the product line due to slow sales so they are pulling while putting out the summer stock. But Trump took to using the influence of the Office of the President of the United States to turn it into a personal attack on social media. The retailer had noted a steady decline in sales over the last year or so, so I think it is entirely possible that Trump's petulant attacks on about everyone and everything over the course of the campaign, contributed directly to the cooling of sales, meaning it's Ivanka's own father who's negatively affecting her success. Very sad!

Jeffrey Hickerson, you stated "I agree, we should let all immigrants and refugees continue to come here. Perhaps then one WILL bomb a bunch of liberals and , FINALLY, they will get the point."

How many conservatives died at the Orlando gay club mass shooting? I'm guess not many.

You're literally wishing harm upon your fellow Americans who disagree with you just to prove a point. There's no room for your hate here.

Re: “Trump kneels to evangelicals

The Christians you refer to, Bucko, are the same kind of radicalized minority as the Jihadists. Real Christians, like real Muslims, are not to be feared.

Re: “A letter from an Iranian American to Charleston

Ron, it means that your freedom to sit during the National Anthem or to not recite the pledge of allegiance was won by those who stand for the national anthem and recited the pledge of allegiance. If no one cared about America and her freedoms, none of us would be free. We would be communist, or fascist, and then they would tell you what you can and cannot do, and arrest you if you feel differently. So I stand and recite the pledge.

Re: “Wednesday marks 49 years since the Orangeburg Massacre

Thank You, I was unaware of this incident. While many will say not much has changed, I see articles like this and realize we have come a long way, though steps can still be taken to bring even greater equality. Racism exists on both sides, however, and we need to stop judging on the color of a persons skin, and instead judge each other based on the actions of the individual.

Re: “A letter from an Iranian American to Charleston

Yet, banning Middle Easterners makes us feel safer. I suppose that depends on who is "us."

First of all this is BS, it's a pause until better vetting procedures are in place from 7 countries.

Second, give me the number of "immigrants" we MUST accept to no longer be considered racist or any other label you like to use.

Third, because you are a nice guy that doesn't mean the millions of other Muslims coming to this country have the same intent as you do.

Re: “Trump kneels to evangelicals

You gotta love leftists. They fear Christians because they will one day be radical and yet welcome bringing in millions of Muslims since they are NEVER radical?

Do I have that right?

Neither insightful nor humorous. And outsourcing your leftest opinion tripe to Grub Street writers from Baltimore, one of the most racially charged and corrupt cities in the country?

CCP you really have no idea how low you have sunk. What drunk is in charge over there?

Re: “A letter from an Iranian American to Charleston

Such a uniformity of response over the years: Why are you still "Iranian?" Why are you "African-American?" Why are you "Muslim-American?" Why are you "Latino American?" I'm just an American, why don't you just be an American?

The implicit message: "you stupid minorities keep putting yourselves in these boxes. Why don't you just be like us white, Christian, Protestant, European-descent people and cool out? It certainly isn't society that puts people in these categories and treats them as varying levels of threat based on their holy book, skin tone, musical preference. Certainly not!"

For all you folks telling this American citizen to GTFO: why aren't you calling INS now? You'd support his deportation if he flew to visit his family in Iran, why wait? After all, he could be concealing enemies in his backpack or jacket pocket. No, this fear isn't irrational, why do you ask?

Re: “Strom Thurmond and Ben Tillman's legacies surfaced as Elizabeth Warren read Coretta Scott King's words in the Senate

The allegations against Sessions were debunked long ago except for those who use the word racism ad nauseam.

Your hit and run trolling has gotten old and repetitive. Session is now you're attorney general, deal with it.

Re: “Strom Thurmond and Ben Tillman's legacies surfaced as Elizabeth Warren read Coretta Scott King's words in the Senate

Sessions was considered too racist to be a judge in the freaking 80s. Think about that for a minute. And he had the support of Strom Thurmond. Think about that as well. Then again, if his supporters had the ability to think, he probably wouldn't be our new Attorney General.

Re: “A letter from an Iranian American to Charleston

"Until enough of them 'Don't want to' and then the country is no longer free. You get to swear fealty to Chairman Mao, or 'Lil Kim' of North Korea. If people do not wish to 'swear fealty' to their country, they will not defend it, and when they will not defend it, you simply hand it off to those who will fight to take it"

Can someone translate this for me? I'm not fluent in incoherent.

so is "Lil Kim" a racial slur equating the leader of North Korea to a Black female HipHop star?
