Beau Zough as someone who has known Mr. Kearney and his family since he was a child I can assure you he is not a racist. What he is, is a realist. What is wrong with preparing his students for the fact that although there is video you shouldn't expect a slam dunk verdict? Our judicial system is not perfect. Anything can happen between now and the trial. What if, God forbid, evidence is mishandled and thrown out? What if for some reason the tape is not allowed into evidence? The jurors will have to make a decision based on evidence such as the officers statement and radio calls. In that case we are looking at a not guilty verdict. Life happens and people make mistakes. Isn't it better to teach our children that although we should hope for the best and work towards that, sometimes life happens and you get the worst?
This is a classic news-business item called "Press release disguised as news bulletin." However, some Charleston ex-pat friends of mine were recently asking about the Rivers Fed Building and now I know it will definitely be the Dingle, err... Dewberry Inn.
I couldn't care less about another top restaurant/chef in town; I'm just sad to see we will have a new hotel called the "Dewberry"
Mr. Scott wasn't trained on how to interact with a cold killer like officer Michael Slager. The problem with Slager is far deeper than a training issue. Perhaps Slager had witnessed the adoration given to others who killed African Americans. We saw the love and support provided to George Zimmerman from Fox News, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Mark Levin. Trayvon Martin was just a kid walking home from the store, and yet was villainized by the aforementioned. Absent the video, officer Slager would surely be on these shows receiving support.
So which is it chief Blackmon? You ask us not to stereotype all police officers but then you go ahead and stereotype all minorities. Are you really serious? Do you not see what is wrong with your behavior?
You don't want to be stereotyped but then you have been stereotyping African Americans and you are too blind to even notice. And that is supposed to be OK? You just identified the problem with your own ignorance. Your own denial of the stereotyping of African American's doesn't allow you to see the nature and depth of your departments racial profiling. Good job Chief. You just identified the problem. Now be a leader and go fix it.
"Do not allow this incident to stereotype the entire law enforcement profession. "
- Chief Blackmon
"Do not allow them to bemoan the lack of trust of police by the minority community."
- Chief Blackmon
PS: And Chief, if you do not want to be stereotyped, perhaps you should start by adding at least one Black minority to your Union management staff. Maybe you have not heard but racism is when there is a power structure in place that is dominated by one race. It creates an entitlement mentality and focus that leads to discrimination. Don't blame me, it's not my definition. You just happen to fall into the definition. You did not create the problem, you inherited the problem. However, if you do nothing to repair it, you become part of the problem and another in a long list of those in command that will be identified in history by a particular word.
Will the restaurant be as good as Whitney Sudler-Smith's?
Will it be as good as Ryan Leaf's restaurant on Beaufain?
I'd love to dogfight Rev. Al Sharpton in a pair of equally matched F/A-18Ds.
Boeing sure does take out a lot of paid advertising against the union. Its all over the place. It makes me wonder why Boeing has to campaign so hard against its workers organizing. Kind of a big waste of money on all those ads, if the union is so sucky and the workers don't need it, why bother? Do they think their workers are so stupid that they will say Ohhhhhhh the "Machinist Union" and just sign on up without investigating what a union could or would do for them first? Are their workers small children who can not possibly think for themselves? Thats the message most of us in the general population get from this anti-union advertising blitz. My message to you Boeing; take those idiot ads away and fire that dumb ass straight outta the fifties marketing firm - cause they suck.
This is not journalism, and it is not news. Who has been speculating about Ben Towill's plans? Nobody I know. What did I learn from this drivel? Nothing.
It's Graham Whorley, not Hurley!
But Luke n- Ollies doesn't allow pets on their porch. UNCOOL
"Any results with this via social media, Pronghorn?"
I don't do social media, warwit. My commenting on the City Paper site is all the digital interaction I need.
Anyone who does use social media should feel free to use my information if you believe that I'm telling the truth.
Moving on, I confronted a manager about it, and she denied that they withhold electronic gratuities from employees. She was livid with me.
All one has to do is talk to the employees, though. Trust me.
This wrong has to be righted.
Go by any of the locations and ask an employee. Try the one on East Bay. I guarantee you that your information is incorrect.
Or maybe they should begin to teach officers the old "pursuit on foot" tactics once again and make them pass a decent endurance test once a year, not just a physical. I ran from a few cops when young and I never thought I was going to get popped in the back, just worried about what would happen to me if they caught me. A knock in the head from them or, even more terrifying, the wrath of my Grandmother coming down on me - capital punishment - I chose jail a few times and begged for it and they still drove me home to her.
And give them blue light helmets to chase down speeders.
They should have taught him to not run away.
This is a great program and a noble effort by Mr. Scott, but he really needed to attend a program that teaches how to not be black around cops.
Well it's nice to see the bureaucrats addressing the real problems. I was sick of hearing about Charleston's crumbling infrastructure, the terrible education/social services system, and the embarrassingly behind schedule roadway & municipal building projects.
With the city looking at cracking down on Uber drivers, AirBnB proprietors, & rowdy bar patrons, they're addressing the problems that matter. These folks are doing award winning work in local government.
Its..a shame Blacks are shot down like wild animals period ..I've seen post from Racist saying blacks are monkeys..even the President and his wife, when is this going to stop, racist whites put Hispanics before Blacks because of their skin color, and some of them can't even read cake batter instructions with out it being in Spanish. However over half of the Products shipped in America comes with Hispanic instructions, and some how or another, they think their better than blacks..we are all equal in this world every one bleeds the same color which is red..and just because you have white skin ..it doesn't make you Supreme over anybody else..that white Supremacy..is all B'S..something that has been around since slavery..Wake up Racist white People . .Slavery is over and has been over for years..that "yes-sir Masser..shit..is Over..
Well if we're being honest, there's no legitimate reason they need cars period. Especially considering the apparent obesity problem that exists within PDs statewide. Perhaps not as much in the Charleston area since it's a lot of former military guys, but in other parts of the state most police officers could benefit from getting out and walking a bit. Maybe riding a bike. I don't know.
But our tax dollars surely should not be funding laziness under the guise of transportation needs.
