Re: “Get coffee with a cop April 16

Cop pulls me over and says " sir, your eyes are glassy have you been drinking"?
I sez " no, but your eyes are glazed have you been eating doughnuts"?

"Defining him by his decades-old affiliation with a "green" group that fired him is intentionally misleading".
That's what trolls do.

Sez who? According to the CDC, 88,000/year. What do you think we are talking about here, tobacco?

Re: “Blotter: The phantom female fighting crew

This blotter is proof enough that were it not for public drunkenness, alcohol related violence and incidents of DUI, we could reduce by 60% the number of police we need in this country to keep the peace. People who promote the consumption of booze try and escape any blame by telling people to drink responsibly when they know darn well that very little alcohol renders many people incapable of being responsible. Over 300,000 deaths each year in the US are attributed to the consumption of alcohol, and so far as the media is concern, they are merely sacrifices to the god Bacchus that helps insure much manna in the form of advertising dollars. The press will publish lighthearted material of how silly people can behave when intoxicated but will NEVER reveal the dark side of alcoholism with any consistency or show GRAPHIC pictures of the results of alcohol related auto accidents and violence. Much of the blood and misery directly related to abuse of alcohol is on their hands whether they want to believe it or not and of course THEY DO NOT WANT TO BELIEVE IT!

Re: “Columbia Film Festival Gains National Attention

I really enjoy this film festival, despite my opinion of Columbia in general. Have my tickets already and will be in attendance at Of Montreal with a couple of friends coming up from Athens.

Re: “New Reality Show Wants to Highlight Dating Troubles in Charleston

Gets down to a good man is hard to find. No many women want a man who smokes, has facial hair, plays the hard drinking macho type, is immature, does drugs, is vain, obese, wants intimacy on the first date, or believes they are God's gift to women. That knocks out about 85% of available males in the Charleston area. But if all you want is to hook up, it's a great place to be dating. There are a lot of loose women in Chuck town.

Re: “Spoleto Poster Unveiled

It's just sort of ... there. Joy? Spontaneity? Dance? Delight? Nope, the poster is just there. Maybe if the guy had a horn and there was a tutu wrapped around one of rebars? Oh, and a slight touch of color?

Re: “Small Business Chamber head urges city officials to prepare for rising sea levels

I was underscoring Ned's wolf-in-sheep's-clothing attempt at using an "environmentalist" to discredit environmentalists. Greenpeace disavows Moore's theories. Ned was attempting to trick the conversation by leading one to believe that a dyed-in-the-wool true-believing hippie can plainly see that global warming is a hoax.
Moore is a paid spokesperson for clear cutting lumber for whom as a PR flak he twists scientific data to falsely support the sustainability of clear cutting, he's a supporter of GMO and paid by those who back mono-farming Golden Rice, he's anti wind power and anti solar power because he's also a paid pseudo-scientist (PR flak) for the Nuclear industry.
His official position is that global warming is a good thing, as humans are a tropical species and cold weather SHOULD kill humans. He wants icebergs to melt to produce more farmland for GMOs.

Defining him by his decades-old affiliation with a "green" group that fired him is intentionally misleading, is my much belabored point. He is wildly partisan and is profiting from supporting the politicization of global warming for his corporate employers.

I like the pink cupcake ATM in LA much more than this, even if its pink and causes users to squeal. Knock Knock! Who's there? Satoshi Nakamoto. Satoshi Nakamoto who? You will never know.

Re: “Small Business Chamber head urges city officials to prepare for rising sea levels

I am with Fish Pimp on this one, although I am pretty sure that we might not have the same opinion on the degree of warming and over sensationalizing.

As for Moore, and my source is for this is the Wikipedia entry so take it for what you want, he became a member of Green Peace in 1971 and was quickly accepted into the inner circle. He became the elected president of the Canadian foundation in 1977 and then left in 1986 "not necessarily by his own choice." Typically someone is not in a powerful position in any organization for fifteen years if they were incompetent or their beliefs were counter to the mission.

He didn't start the consulting business until 1991 and according to the article his efforts haven't exactly been anti environmental. He has pushed for more sustainable forestry and help to develop and modify industry standards and also worked for a company that makes geothermal heating systems.

I know the tactic is to try and personally destroy someone who's opinions are not what you believe but, and again this is based on the Wikipedia entry, he doesn't seem to be the kind of pseudo scientist that environmentalist extremists want to paint him into being. Just because someone works for industry or is no longer part of an anti whatever group it doesn't necessarily make them wrong or their opinion any less valid.

Re: “Small Business Chamber head urges city officials to prepare for rising sea levels

Because Mr. Pimp, that would make perfect sense and we will have none of that silliness here. No rational thoughts please, keep them to yourself or you will confuse us.
